Changing plugs on a 87 5L

Is it hard to change the plugs on an 87 5L?? I check there location real quick, the driver side looks ok but the passenger side looks like a bitch of a job. And also, what plugs would you guy recommend I put in, im basically running a stock motor.

Thanks,
M.L.

Just incase, by plugs i mean spark plugs.

They're not very hard to do, the pass side is a little worse, but once the intake tube is removed it's not too bad. While you're at it if you have original wires, change them too, along with the cap and rotor. I always use factory Ford plugs on all my Mustangs.

FORD PLUGS...and its easy!

Scones 03-26-2007 03:31 PM

You'll need an elbow to properly get the one plug on the passenger side but it can be done without. Stick with ford stuff, they knew what the cars liked when they designed them, and they seem to run funny with other ignition stuff.

Definetly buy motocraft plugs! they are the best! there the only plugs i havnt been able to burn up! there easyier to change than any v6 front wheel drive car! lol

Agreed on Motorcrafts +1

88GTCOBRA 07-12-2007 01:35 AM

I use splitfire's and the car runs a lot better than the original motorcrafts...

I run NGK Platinum plugs in the "LHO" and Motorcraft plugs in the Capri. Both seem to work fine. Whichever plug you choose, make sure you gap them correctly.

ford plugs

Get Motorcraft FORD 42C plugs,.... if running spray opt for the 32C. Easy to do lots of room.

what have you done to your car since the plugs?

red87gt 02-24-2009 06:58 AM

Engine internals are stock, but ive done upper/lower intake, phenolic spacer, 70mm TB and Plenum spacer, BBK fendermount CAI, eibach springs/shocks/front and rear sway bars, KYB quad shocks, bbk rear upper and lower control arms, ford racing front control arms, magnaflow exhaust, all energy suspension bushings through out the suspension. SItting in my basement are a set of Richmond 3.73s, energy suspension engine and tranny mounts, taylor wires, msd cap & rotrs, misc. engine sensors (the car is 22 years old after all), more mastercraft plugs. I know im forgetting some stuff but that is the just of it. Oh and it got repainted its original auburn red in Nov-Dec. I've changed most of the bolts for new hardware. Fiberglass Mach 1 hood.

This year no big plans as I bought a house 7 months ago and money is tighter and any extra goes into increasing the value of the house instead.
