Clutch Advice????

Hey all,

Just found out that my rear main seal is leakin. Guy tells me he is gonna drop the tranny to get to it................tells me that while it's apart I might as well change the clutch if need be but I don't think I have the extra $$$$...my clutch is still really good and has 189,000km which were all highway.........regardless..........what would be the best clutch for this car as a replacement and bang for the buck???

Thanks a bunch!

Best bang for the buck with 300-400 RWHP I'd say the Ford Racing King Cobra clutch.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies..........I did talk to someone at Ford Racing and he told me that you can develop some pretty good leg muscles with the king cobra and that is one reason to stay away from it...........Is it that stiff?

If that's what he said then he didn't install it properly, mine is smooth and easy. I would of told you if it was hard to press down the clutch pedal.
I have heard others say the same thing but my clutch is nice and soft.

mine also is extremly easy to engage.

you don't want to get too much clutch afterall....i've always said keep your clutch the weakest link in the drivetrain. the king cobra is a good step up from a stock clutch, or you could just convert to an 86+ 10.5 inch instead of your stock 10 inch (if that's what you still have in your 85 :)

most aftermarket clutches are harder than stock. a King Cobra is stiff and some tend to have some probs. Mike at MPW told me that

I had the King Cobra and thought it was not really stiff either. Then I got a centerforce dual friction with my tko and it was way easier than the King Cobra. No comparison. However there is quite a difference in price. If you don't have a lot of mods just go with a stock replacement.
