Gas gauge needle
hey all, i bought my 88 stang and it didnt have a gas needle....so i have no idea what level my gas is at.
now can i go to the wreckers and pull off a needle from another fox stang and put it on my cluster? but i would fill my tank right full so that i know what level its at then put the needle at the full mark.
would that work?

You could try that.. but I think there'd be more to it if your needle is missing. Maybe the gauge itself is pooched.. or maybe the wiring to the gauge is damaged, or even more likely that the sender unit isn't working properly.
If you're heading out to a wrecking yard, when you take the gauge cluster apart, take the whole gas gauge out... there are two small screws that secure it to the vinyl gauge face. It's a tiny litte thing. Might be useful to have a spare with you.
If you hook it up and it seems to work, fill your tank up and position the needle so it sits 1-2mm above the "full" mark..

make sure you get one from the same year as yours... well 87-89 in your case... they changed the speedo on the newer cars for the airbag... the cluster is a different shape, and the slosh module is in a different spot... I'm not sure on the interchange on them, so to be on the safe side get the same stuff
