Gas Grade

i am used to driving cavaliers and such, so i was curious what type of gas do u use in your mustangs?
its a 5.0, do they need 91 octane? or is the cheap stuff ok to use?

some cars need premium, and others its a waste to put in premium so what do you use?

As far as I know, regular was recommended by Ford for the 5.0. If you've bumped your timing at all you'll want to run a higher octane though

I agree. I use to run Sunoco ultra 94 all the time, but my timing was bumped up to 12 degrees. Regular 87 octane will be good for a stock engine.

I run regular old 87 octane the majority of the time. That's all it calls for in the owners manual. Every once in a while I blow a tank of 94 through her though. She's a stocker, so why bother with the extra expense?

Only the '96+ Cobras/Mach 1s are supposed to run premium, I run regular in my 5.0 with 12deg of timing, ran it with 14 deg of timing a few years back too, no problems, I always run premium in my Cobra though.

As long as your timing isn't bumped, or you're not running a lot more ait through it than it came from the factoy 87 will do you (not that it's cheap right now at 101.9 )

even if you're timing is bumped, as long as you don't hear any pinging, you're fine. I have mine bumped to 14 and I still run regular with no problems.
