Intake porters

Does anyone know of someone in the Lower Mainland of BC that is good at porting a lower intake manifold (Cobra intake)? I'd send it down to Tom Moss, but the shipping, etc gets expensive.

I just wanted a little better flow for the 331. Eventually, I plan to buy AFR 185 heads, so I would probably have the lower ported to match that. I guess I could probably wait until then, since it's a street car, and even the stock Cobra intake is going to be a big improvement over the stocker.

Unless Tmoss is showing you some flow numbers who knows, speculation. Stock Cobra intake is nice, but what about TrickFlow for your setup? Little more flow i believe than a cobra And you can always add a blower in the future and the intake will work well.

I just purchased the Cobra about a month ago, after months of decision making, so I won't be buying another one. My decision was based on the fact that this is a street car, so won't see very much high RPM, so I can avoid the RCMP.

I still have to get my SDS working before I worry too much more about the intake anyway - I seem to have a problem with the pin 22 providing ground to the relay.

I am a fan of the cobra intake, cant lie there and I have to agree, going out and buying another intake is lame :p

What you fail to realize is you need higher rpms, more hp to get away from the RCMP

My take on general perf. shops and the people. Usually everyone in Canada says everyone in the US rocks, an in some instances many Americans think the Canadians rock. I am sure PSP could do some porting for you or even as I said previously, Rolling Thunder.

Personally, I wouldn’t invest to much into hogging out the Cobra intake at this time. Save the money and put it towards a blower

What is Tmoss charging for the port job ?

You know, I think that's a good idea. I had originally thought of putting a blower on it, but then I kept hearing all these stories of the weak stock block, plus I'd like to get the extra weight of the iron heads off first. It's just got ported E7s on there now (1.94/1.6 valves and 9:1 compression), and the "dreaded" e-cam. There's no way in the world I'd get "permission" from my wife to spend that now, but maybe in a couple of years. With just a small amount of boost, I think I'd be safe (from my wife, and from splitting the block).
Yeah, I think I'll just keep it as is for now, get new heads next year, and maybe a blower in 2010.
I finally found the problem with my SDS computer BTW. It WAS pin 22, or at least the one that connects to pin 22 on the factory harness. In the photo, you can see a slight separation on the one pin. I wouldn't have thought that would matter, but it did. So, I finally fired it up for the first time in many months...now I just have to tune it.
I'll post some photos of the car once I get it back on the road.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention, he charges about $120 to port the lower, but of course shipping, duty etc. would make that much higher.

Well, in the quest to go fast or have power the biggest bang for the buck is nitrous, turbo and superchargers. By now most of us know this BUT it still gets costly.

When considering all you have to do to make some serious jam and what you have to spend, you should also consider picking up a 03 that’s been wrecked. Motor, trans and computer You could also go independent rear which is kind of cool.

Now I know this is a far cry from paying $120 for getting the lower ported, but if you can bank it, why not put it towards something decent.

Stock block can handle power in moderation, but reality is it wont last forever. Just note, I personally put down 660 rwhp on a dyno jet with a stock block 306 built by Beatty & Woods. Note that was more of an accident then a real attempt to make that jam. When all was said and done I was driving a turbo car with 520 RWHP. Too much.

E-cam. My turbo setup loved it Have you thought about a DIY turbo kit ? You could even take a chance on an ebay turbo kit that’s fairly cheap.

Again, when I consider all things I have done, I should have just gone the 03 Cobra route myself. Either I should have bought a running car or one with salvage title and used the drive train, I would have been a lot further ahead. For instance, this 03 cobra has a $12,000 buy it now. For what I now have invested into my motor, power adder, fuel system it far surpasses the 12k.

It is a lot to consider and please, consider all options before just listening to me :p
