Off road H pipe, cats or no cats

I have an 86 5.0L, im about to put a new X pipe onto it. Looking at different ones and deciding weather to go with or without cats. The car dosent need to be e tested because its 20. How many people are running with out cats? Do you have problems with getting pulled over? Will it certify without cats?

If it doesnt have to go for etest why waste the money on cats. No your car will not pass with out them. I know from experience. However my car is also 20 years old now and i removed them with a mac o/r h-pipe.And i havent been pulled over yet.But i heard they do fine you. hope this helps.

Depends on MOE where you live, I've never had a problem, and have been pulled over by Police several times for unrelated charges, yes, it will pass a Safety inspection without cats.

hell, i'm still running the factory h-pipe with 4 cats....until you're into the 12s I wouldn't even think about swapping for an off-road

Mine passed with no cats and no pollution pump. It was on the line though. Only thing was a fresh fill of Sunoco Ultra94, car was nice and warm, fresh Mobil 1 15w50 in it and timing at 4 degrees base.

Mine also passed with no cats, high octane, and timing bumped down. The choice is really up to you. Good luck with it.

Well thanks everyone...Im not too concerned with the car "passing" anything based on the year, but am somewhat concerned with getting pulled over with out the cats there
