Oil Question

Hey everyone......

I tried to google search and search on the forums for the answer.

My question is, What brand of synthetic is everyone using for their 5.0?

I used mobile 1 for the v6 but wondering if trying Formula 1 Synthetic will be ok or if there is something else to try?

I know people like Royal Purple, but there is only a few places to get it and usually don't have 5W20 in stock.

Wondering what everyone else recommends?

Thanks Everyone.

Doug

I've used Mobil 1 on my past few cars because they required 5w50 and that was all I could find. As long as you use a name brand oil I think you should be fine.

5W20 is for fuel economy reasons only ... if you want best protection, go with a different grade like 5W30 or 5W50, much easier to find as well. Boss 302s got the 5W50 Motorcraft synthetic, same as the GT-500, as their spec oil.

cheers

Any of the major brands like Castrol, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Esso, etc. I'd stay away from the Kirkland oil from Costco lol.

My 13 GT with the track package took 5w50 as well.

Ya I don't understand why the GT with track package takes 5w50 and the non track doesn't?!?!?!?!?! same engine, and I could race mine just as much as someone else does with the package lol.
My truck takes 5w30 and that would make it a lot easier if I went that way then I am buying only 1 kind.

What about Formula 1 from motomaster? stay away from it as well? Will going 5w30 void warranty?

I'm not sure who makes motomaster oil but I'd research it first. I'm not sure how sticky Ford is on oil weight but I'd check with your local dealer.

What brand oil you use is like asking what brand of wax, or what brand of bluejeans you wear . Pretty subjective, I agree with the consensus of sticking to the big names, go with the grade recommended in the owners manual to avoid any warranty glitches. Doesn't get much better than the Motorcraft synthetic I would think, if it's good for the Boss and GT500, should be good for the 5.0, but all comes down to what you personally want to run.
