If it's like fox body's, it's marked on the door with a letter under 'ax' I believe. I don't remember which letters correspond to what ratios though.

Do you have the stock tires and rims on? If you do then you can jack up the back, mark a line on the tire, rotate the the tire one full rotation, while doing this count how many times the driveshaft turns. if it turns 3 times then you have 3.08, 3.5 then you have 3.55 and so on. :

i think you might be missing some numbers/letters there however,

S223B = axle plant and model code (S= Sterling axle plant)

2L33884A12 I think should read 2L73 A88 4A12, but Ford might have changed the layout of the tags along the way.

2SL73= 2.73 w/ Traction-Lok differential (L= limited slip)
A= unknown
88= 8.8" ring gear
4A12= Build date

I think that is the plant code. If the Tag is still on one of the axle cover bolts and still a factory ford, ie never been open and changed. Then ya that tag should tell you whats going on in there. Bottom of tag by the bolt hole.

There should be a sticker on the inside of your Driver door jam with the proper axle code. (ax) bottom right.
Then try here and it should answer a few Q's you have about how to decipher a code or 2 for your car web.tampabay.rr.com/theflock/mustang/doorplate.html#ax

Most likely ax. code Z = 3.08L L= Limited Slip Differential
cool :thumb1:
