rebuild vs getting stroked
 

over winter i plan on getting my motor rebuilt, now my question is....whats a rebuild usually cost?.....im talking just like new headgasket,seals,bearings yada,yada and so on?..........also what about turning my 306 into 347 stroker?............im highly interested in doing this and wondering what the prices are for both a rebuild and having the motor done to a 347 stroker....

When you are doing a stroker you are basically doing a rebuild anyway. If you are already bored 30 over and everything else is fine all you will need to have for machine work is to clearance the block for the extra stroke. Plus the cost of the stroker kit. You can get a cast kit for around $800 US. There are lots on ebay. You should have a 28 ounce balancer and flywheel also, although some people balance them to 50.

You might wanna check out Beatty & Woods, reliable folks to deal with that really know their stuff.

My suggestion is to speak to Paul Silva at PSP (416)285-7285. He's been building small block Ford's for many years and is my top choice for an engine builder. I personally would steer you away from a 347 and tell you to go with a 331 stroker. I think a 331 is much better suited to a street/strip vehicle.

ya iv also thought aboutn doing a 331 but i think the whole issue with 347's burning oil is in the past now, the car also see's a 250 shot of spray once and awhile........my buddy had his motor stroked to a 331 3 years ago and payed 2700 at some rpm performance shop in bolton and it stll runs great.im gunna assume 2700 was dirt cheap

I would disagree. I went with a 331 and everyday wish I had went with a 347.
There is no substitute for cubic inches. I am actually looking at going to a 351 and maybe stroking it and dropping the 331 in my Explorer.

If you plan on spraying a 250 shot on top of a decently prepped 331, you better invest in an A4 or Dart block now. Or else the thing you will be regretting isn't Cubic inches, it's the new, slimmer wallet you'll be carrying around.
