haha yes, very good point and this was my next concern, b/c i know the stock block will not hold up

How much do the girdles help with strength? I've seen one where you drill holes for braces in the lifter valley and bolt them in and the ones where the oil pan area is.

More hype! but they will hold the pieces together. If your building at that level then at least look for a used A4 or Boss block.

A better investment would be a new Word or Dart block.

I dont believe the hype, I go with experience over hearsay. And I'm not suggesting the 331 over the 347 because of oil control problems, I think a 331 is a better motor and puts less stress on the stock block. Also, main girdles are useless. They just keep it all in a nice tidy pile when the block breaks.

Interesting. How many have you built and exactly how much stress is caused from the increased rod angle?

Truth is increased cylinder pressure is a way more important factor in cylinder loading. Oil control issues are not a problem for those who know how to assemble a shortblock.

Yes. You can get lucky and find a stock block that will live but essentially it's no less riskier then playing russian roulette. A good 4 bolt block offers a more rigid base which typically translates into a small gain in power and more importantly it helps you sleep better at night!

well called the shop my buddy got his motor done at and got a quote of 3200 to do a 347 stroker in my car, this included everythign to rebuild the motor and the kit plus machining etc, will take 2 weeks to complete and they wont charge me anymore to remove the motor from the car for the rebuild ( didnt know they would)........does this sound like a fair price?

Thats A Good Price But Likely That Kit Comes With A Cast Crank ,hyper Piston & Cheap Rods. But It Just Depends What You Plan To Do With The Car.

It doesn't happen very often but I agree with SS all the way on a 331 over the 347. There was a comparison between the two in a MM&FF mag a few months back. The guy being interviewed was an engine building guru and he claims that on any street driven stang the 331 is the way....you get a few extra ponies outta the 347 but not many, and you've got a much weaker and heavier rotating assembly. If I were to do a stroker it'd be a 331 for sure....

Stop reading magazines and taking what they say as gospel! One of their main motivations is to sell you products and there are simply too many "guru's" out there making claims as well.

Weaker & heavier assembly? Last time I checked Big Daddy ran high 7’s with an Eagle rotating. Maybe he didn’t make enough power?

If you want an honest opinion regarding this exact same topic do a search over on Hardcore5.0 on it. If you read between the lines you will find your answer.
