That is for the air pollution pump system. If you trace that portion of the tubes and hoses, they are coming the air pump driven off the serp belt, leading to the tube that runs across the back of the cylinder heads ... injecting fresh air under certain conditions to the exhaust ports through passages in the heads.

Ford's trade name for the air pump system is the "Thermactor" system, so you need a Thermactor check valve, it's gotten rusty and come apart. Hopefully you are able to get the broken portion removed that is still in the head-to-head pipe, otherwise it will have to be replaced as well, which is a tight job with the engine in the car. Ford Motorcraft part number is CX-1327, you can get that by ordering from the dealer, or online somewhere, or an aftermarket equivalent.

Not sure where the vacuum line is supposed to be going to, you might have to do some Google searching for Fox engine bay pics to see.

The cars were speed-density from 86-88, 89 was the first year we saw the MAF version in Canada (California got them a year earlier).

cheers

It's possible, but I'm not sure how well that material might weld. Half of it is thin stamped metal, the rest is cast I believe. Give it a go if you're a good welder, it's already fuggered so you can't ruin it. LOL

cheers
