Any Other Vintage Owners Beside Me?
Come on brothers. We have to stick together. The yung'uns are taking over.
My vintage is my 1965 2+2. I bought it 19 1/2 years ago as a finished car. It was restored in 1986 so that is now 25 years ago. I have this irresistible urge to tinker so I have done a lot of work to it. When I bought it it had a 1966 289 in it with a Ford 4V intake and a crappy Holley, a BW T10 4 speed and 3.25 open axle. It now has a bunch of vintage performance stuff on it. 1990 5.0 with a B303, a Cobra hirise intake, Cobra T pan oil pan, Ford dual point distributor, hidden MSD 6AL digital box, Pertronix II, a K code alternator underdrive pulley, vintage clutch fan and radiator shroud, ceramic coated tri-y headers with all stainless dual exhaust including the Dynamax mufflers, 9 inch with a locker and 3.50 gears, Tremec TKO 600 5 speed, Lakewood scattershield, Centerfroce clutch, Street or Track adjustable strut rods, es, OpenTracker roller spring perches, 2003 Mustang GT leather seats, Ray Brown 4 inch racing belts, aluminum driveshaft, vintage 60's Cragar G/T wheels. http://app4.websitetonight.com/proje...ery/Engine.jpg http://www.prince-cva.ca/uploads/NewEngineSmaller.jpg |

Yes I have a 1967 Fastback that I've owned for many years. It has it's share of upgrades. With these old cars, there is always something that you can do to make them better.

Here is mine, 65 2+2 was a 6 banger with a 3pd man.
Now has a 351w mated to a 5spd. 4 wheel disc brakes. I have owed the car for 17 years. Been finished for about 7 years gotta love these old Gals!!!!! |
^^^^^ Do you have drop motor mounts to get the 351 in the 65/66 style? What intake do you have?
|
Not normally a fan of green cars, but damn kwkenf, that's one good looking machine and some great pictures. You other guys ain't doin' so shabby either - nice.
|
I always said I would get an old one but I never have. One day maybe. Congrats to the owners of the vintage cars

You don't need to use drop mounts. Stock mounts work fine. You have to be careful with the intake or you will need some form of raised hood, dropped base air cleaner or a combination of all of them. The easiest solution is to use a low riser aluminum intake. You can use the stock log manifolds but they suck. You really, really want to use headers designed for this application. |
Stock mounts, I am using old school weiland low rise single plane intake with a 1" spacer.
The headers are from Headman for this application. I have a water pump from a 289 that allowed me to use a 65/66 rad and hoses. |
kwkenf....I really like what you have done to your car.
Ok....so, we have 3 of us and some wanna be's. I think that makes us the elite of CMOC :) |
Very nice guys!!:tup

Congratulations on the great looking first and second generation cars. Well, I was going to wait for the repaint in the spring but if there are only 3 vintage owner replies... I'll throw mine in too. I guess I'm the latest of the vintage owners so far with a 4th generation '73 351 CJ 4-speed convertible. Lots to do to it but its a lot of fun.
|
That's a beautiful looking car.
You said earlier that it was loaded with options. What options does it have? |
Thanks pprince. Yes the car was well optioned from the factory. It has just about everything I would have ordered on a convertible in 1973 except power windows and I can live without that. The highlights are:
Side stripes, NASA scoop hood, 3.50 track-lok, Instrumentation group, decor group, Rim-blow steering wheel, aluminum wheels, racing mirrors and because it is a CJ 4 speed car it came with competition suspension. I like that it originally had all the extras of a Mach1 on a convertible. |
That is a really nicely equipped CJ. That would have been a very expensive car when new.
It really is a Mach I convertible. |
What would that be priced at new. I know my dad bought a 72 Ranch Wagon that ran 5000.00 and it was a stripper by todays standard.
|
My swag would be that that car would have been in the vicinity of $5,000 - $5,500 new
|
I'm not sure what the original sticker would have been. It came to me with a Deluxe Marti report but that doesn't seem to mention the original list price. Internet sources say that a base convertible started at around $3000 in the U.S. That's about the same as a Mach1 which probably came with much better trim and a bigger engine.
Nowadays, the 71-73 cars don't seem to get the prices that the earlier cars command but I've always liked them. |

The Grande is an easily forgotten Mustang. It was simply overshadowed by the Mach I was was a really coo car in its own right. |
i have a first day 65 , built aug 17 1964, some parts are 64 1/2 thought, i guess what was left over the previous day..
|
That is really cool.
I am not sure what you mean by "some parts are 64 1/2 thought, i guess what was left over the previous day" They would all be 64 1/2 parts. |
One thing, my carpet covers the floor only, and have vinal from the floor up to the door sills, and my valve covers and air cleaner are robin egg blue, not gold like the later ones...
|
You carpet should only cover the floor with vinyl up the sill .
Do you have a 260V8? Those would be blue from the factory. The 289 was black block and gold air cleaner and valve covers. |
have a 289,, later 65's dont have vinal, motor built in aug as well as a 289 tag#551J
|
Ok, that explains it. You have had a heart transplant and it was not painted the correct colours.
The vinyl carpet stuff went into roughly September 64, so it was around for a while. Tell us some more about your Mustang. When did you buy it? Do you know any of its history? |
Hi guys, sorry to join in the conversation so late.
I've owned a 1968 GT since 1996 and it was restored, I think, around 1984. I've done a few things to it over the years, nothing major. It's a fun car! If you're interested check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPYgSEJBeio |
Short and sweet lol, I will say it sounds great
|
