To do or not to do: Stock or Mod's?
I have a 65 coupe. 289 V8.
It seems that every year I ponder the thoughts of doing some mod's to the car, then I think I should leave it stock. I enjoy it being stock for the most part and then other times I see all the chrome and mod's other's have made to theirs and I think I'm missing out. I don't want mine to be like everyone else's...that's why I tell myself every year to leave it original BUT I can't stop thinking how nice it would be to add some chrome to the engine and maybe switch up the wheels and mags....smack: Should I leave it stock or do some changes? |
my thought is this, just do do anything you cant change back easily. dont cut it up and if its the original engine and you want to mod it, pull it out and store it and build what you want. have fun with it. coupes are not as desireable as verts and fastbacks anyway. I am building a resto mod 64 1/2 coupe right now and I will be able to put it stock in the future if I want. my vert and fastback are going to stay stock though.

Wheels & tires are the easiest thing to do (and the easiest to change back), to improve the appearance of a vehicle.
My base model 68 Cougar went from looking like an old man's car, to something a lot more interesting, with a wheel & tire swap. cheers Ed N. |
personally....I'd mod the hell out of it....cause that's what I like
suspension, brakes, wheels, exhaust, steering....make her drive real nice.....then I'd start on the jewelry box but with the value of #'s matching originals that are mint....if that's what your's is....tough callsmack: |
I can't answer that!!! smack: But then again,if i owned a classic,i would probably still mod it  .I just like personallizing my rides.
|
Only if you can change it back easily thumb:

Mod it. There is nothing MORE BORING than rows of neatly restored Mustangs. If you're worried about value then as others have said keep the parts and make them bolt on mods. Vintage Mustangs are pretty rudimentary cars and stock quite frankly they aren't great performers. Brakes and Handling are the areas I'd be looking at. Shiny stuff is nice too though! Stu

Keep all your original parts and just do bolt on mods WAY TOO SIMPLE! Problem solved. Good luck on the choice Keith |
I'd say MOD the hell out of it and hang the F$&K on. Unless you think its worth big $$$$$$$
If not order a motor and a big nasty blower logic: |
Well, I pondered that same question years ago. Your ride is a reflection of you and your personality. There is no right or wrong answer here. Good luck!

Unless it's a trailer queen, your car would be more fun and probably more valuable (tastefully) modified. Who can complain about more power, better brakes, bigger wheels?! If you change your mind, you can easily sell the parts on websites like this one.
As long as nothing is permanent, you've got nothing to lose! |
is it a 2 barrel?? ..swap to 4 b
i'd just port everthing out...heads ,intake ,headers...just KEEP the stuff you took off. |

My advice would be to mod, BUT do it tastefully. That means no chrome and suttle in my books. Go nuts and have fun! |
Do what ever you want !!!
All that matters is what you want , It's your car have it the way you like.

It will be you enjoying the ride, so what makes you happy is what should be done, dont worry what others say or do to their rides, make yourself smile.
|
I am only just sagest you if its the original engine, don't go for mod. Keep all your original parts and just do bolt on mods.
|
:)New year, is it still stock?
|
Mod. is a good idea. you can try it. It can improve the appearance of your vehicle.

Do what ever you want, its your car. Decide what thecar will be used for, Do you want to go concours or drive it.
When I got my 68 flop top I spent a ton on original till one day I said lets drive this thing. I started with an AOD, then a 331, then rear disks, power windows, seats from a 93 done in leather, LED tail lights, Shelby Roll bar,ten spoke wheels, remote entry and trunk plus many, many items to numerous to mention. On the outside at a quick glance, the vehicle looks basicly stock till you look close, it's then the mods become evident. I kept all the parts I removed but what for, I have seats, engine, tranny, interior etc,etc all that stuff does is take up room. Nothing more exhiliarating than tooling around in a classic. Unless the car is a very rare model there is not much keeping you from personalising it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...e/DSC_1888.jpg Attachment 20789 Attachment 20790 |
rare model, limited production, stay away from too many mods, or, if you do any, keep the old peice's, and make sure its a bolt on item only.
What can be bolted on, can always be removed and stock put back into place. Now, if you've got a car in MINT shape, rare, old, and worth a tonn in stock form, and all you plan to do is show it, and store it, drive a couple times a year at most, and have it as an investment, then no, mods would be dumb! Besides that, if you plan to drive the car, then do as you please and make it your own........ have fun and enjoy the car. Thats what it was built for. Remeber car's wern't built to put up on a petistal. They were ment to be driven. |
