finally got my car back together after replacing the intake manifold, new valve covers, and new water pump. turn the key yesterday afternoon and nothing...just dead air..no sound at all.

double checked the wiring connections from the battery to the starter, ignition coil, etc., everything is exactly back to the way it was b4 i disconnected everything. had a guy friend on my street who is an electrician and he tested the battery (13V) ignition coil was fine (brand new), the battery ground wire was never disconnected from the car and is connected securely to the block.

Anybody have any suggestions.....???

Tried to start it from the battery, but nothing. Starter solenoid died. $24.00 for new one...gonna try again tonight.

Does everything else work? eg: lights, radio, horn Make sure your ground wire is taken off and all surfaces are sanded to shiny metal. Be careful when tightening the double nuts on the solenoid, use 2 open end wrenches. The threaded stud that the wires connect to have a habit of spinning. Once that happens the solenoid is toast. Sometimes happens when tearing down that leads to hair pulling upon reconnect. Some what like " everything is exactly back to the way it was b4 i disconnected everything."

It was the starter solenoid. I must have pooched it when I was working on the car, or it just died from old age.

You most likely spun the studs when you dis-assembled or re-assembled. Very easy to do. Been there, done that.

If avery thing else is working corectly then it was the starter solenoid.
