Custom widebody Mustang will sell for charity at Barrett-Jackson

Galpin Auto Sports has teamed up with specialty manufacturer SPX and Barrett-Jackson to create a custom widebody that will sell for charity early next year.

Inspired by the 1969 Boss 429, this Mustang features a hand-fabricated metal widebody kit that adds an incredible 229 mm to the width of the car, functional side scoops above the rear wheels, and a functional hood scoop from an actual Boss 429. Under the hood is a Ford Racing supercharger system that boosts the 5.0L V8 to 700 horsepower. For the interior, Galpin added custom red suede and black leather seats and upholstery and a 1000-watt JLT audio system. To top it all off, the car is painted in a PPG Candy Apple Red hue.

The car is scheduled to make several appearances, including Barrett-Jackson's Las Vegas auction and SEMA before going up for auction at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in January, with the proceeds from the sale to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) today announced it has been selected by manufacturing leader and Fortune 500 company, SPX Corporation (NYSE: SPW), to create a special one-of-a-kind high-performance Ford Mustang that will be auctioned to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz. in January 2012.

Prior to traveling to Scottsdale, this unique and highly collectible example of GAS' craftsmanship will debut to the public at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas, where it will be on display September 22-24, 2011. The car will make a number of appearances at car shows and events across the country, including SEMA 2011, leading up to its auction in Scottsdale this January.

GAS hand fabricated an all-metal wide-body that stretches the vehicle nine inches wider than a stock Mustang. To complement the vehicle's aggressive stance and design which was inspired by the Mustang BOSS 429, a Ford Racing supercharger boosts engine performance to more than 700HP. Forgiato 22x14 rear and 21x11 front three-piece GTR wheels were mated to 335/25/22 and 295/25/21 Pirelli tires to fit to the new body. Inside, custom red suede and black leather trim and upholstery with suede headliner were added to enhance the interior. The Mustang also features a Bassani Performance exhaust system, custom formulated PPG paint, a 1000-watt JL Audio system and many other unique items that make this Mustang one-of-a-kind.

All proceeds from the auction of this Mustang will go to support St. Jude, one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases where no child is ever denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.

"Cancer affects so many families across America and we're very excited at the opportunity to utilize our talents to help raise money to fight this terrible disease," said GAS President Beau Boeckmann. "We're honored SPX chose us as the shop to build this vehicle. Once completed, this car has tremendous potential to raise a lot of money for an organization that benefits a great cause."

SPX is a leading manufacturer and provider of specialized, engineered products and technologies for a variety of industries, and is dedicated to raising money for St. Jude. For 2011, SPX turned its attention to creating a special street car unlike anything else on the road to fulfill its annual fundraising goal for the charity. After a lengthy review process, executives at SPX selected Galpin Auto Sports as their shop of choice to design and build this year's charity car.

"We are proud to support the vital care that St. Jude Children's Research Hospital provides to so many children and families, and hope to raise as much money as possible for them with our charity car auction at the Barrett-Jackson event in early 2012," said Christopher J. Kearney, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of SPX. "Galpin Auto Sports is well-known for producing very attractive, powerful cars and we look forward to partnering with them to create a very special vehicle for this extremely worthy cause."

The 2012 charity auction at Scottsdale will mark the third consecutive year that SPX has donated a car to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and as in years past, Barrett-Jackson plans to donate all its customary fees to St. Jude. Additionally, the car will once again sell at no reserve.

"It is important to Barrett-Jackson to be able to provide help and support to charities like St. Jude," said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. "It is our goal to offer as many charitable opportunities as possible at our auctions and recognize those in need. It is truly an honor to be a part of the efforts of St. Jude to help children and their families by providing a memorable experience."

Just looking at the live pics on Google.I like how the back side windows are gone and the 427 hood scoop looks good. The fenders are a bit too much but all in all a very nice Mustang..

Thanks, Whitelion.
