Ford Ranger - It's All Over

Well Ford has decided to pull the plug on production for the Ford Ranger. I have never personally owned one, but heard a lot of good things about them over the years. Anyway, here is the link to the full story!

It's a sad day for me.:frown: I currently have 09 Sport and have owned 3 before it. The Ranger is probably the best all around "small" truck out there (IMO). I'm hoping Ford will come up with a suitable replacement.

I had heard about this straight from a ford rep when I bought my 2010 (second ranger). I love these trucks and hate to see them disappear from the North American market. The problem is that the new ranger (4 door - will be sold in europe) is even bigger than the current and ford believes it will compete too much with the f150.
On the bright side, the ranger name will continue in europe and ford may one day bring it back here. If that happens I will be looking forward to an ecoboost ranger or diesal ranger.

I just thought of this; if this does well over seas and there is an outcry here for the ranger here I could see ford selling it here but reintroducing the f100 badge to put the ranger into the 'f series' of trucks. Just a thought anyway. Love that I5 diesel almost as much as I love the V6 ecoboost.

I have often thought about picking up the FX4 Ranger 4x4 but the fuel mileage was only marginally better ( 1 mpg city-1 mpg hwy) than the 5.4 i.e. 18/25 Ranger 17/24 F150. Like the article mentioned the pricing was not competitive anymore to boot as you can get a Ram Hemi 4x4 for a little over 25k out here. I always liked the look of the little one but alas woo too just hit 12,000 posts lol

I really like the way you think! Maybe you should be working at Ford Corporate. F100 would be a really cool thing to bring back, and the 3.5 ecoboost would be my choice.:tup

And while we're at it, can we bring back the Lightning too.....man I love those trucks, and I think a Lightning version on the new body style would be incredible.

An F100 ecoboost, now that would be a great replacement for the Ranger.

I've heard that they were dropping it. I'm actually suprised.

There was already talk of this a few years ago

This was the biggest reason Ford decided to drop the Ranger. As great of a truck as it is everything on it is outdated and it was due for a complete overhaul. The reason it sells so well is the price difference from the base F150, but if they were to rework it and increase the price the gap wouldn't be enough and most would probably just step up to the F150 anyway. Once the model year is over watch for some aggresive pricing on reg cab 3.7L F150 models as that would be the next closest choice.

There is no replacement set in stone but they are considering a model that would be built on the Transit Connect platform.

Great call on the Lightning as to me that was the most attractive muscle truck to be had

A Lightning would be awesome. The new 5.0 in the F150 seems to respond to mods very nicely. There's a thread about it on an F150 site I frequent, JLP performance made 355rwhp and 365rwtq with an intake, muffler swap and a tune with a 2wd 5.0. Heck stock it made 331rwhp.

Something might be in the works, but if it comes back, I'd bet on it being powered by the EcoBoost V6. I've been bugging my dealer for the last year about getting a regular cab, short box, 2 wheel drive F150 with that engine, and Ford won't build it. :banghead: This has me thinking either A: They're holding on to that for something special (Lightning?), or B: They're afraid it would put the hurt on the Mustang.

To hell with fuel mileage anyway. I say they take the 6.2 from the Raptor and throw a 2.3 Kenne Bell S/C on it, with a few other odds/ends. Hennessey made a supercharged Raptor with 575 HP, that might be a good start.:D

Dodge has the R/T so imagine 390hp with a s/c in a 2wd platform:tup

Also felt there was a market for the Ranger but luckily for ford i dont call the shots. LOL

SNAKEBITE 12-28-2011 07:59 PM

I personally think Ford waited to long to completely overhaul the Ranger
