Northtown Ford-Closed and bankrupt?

I feel terrible for anyone who purchased a car from Northtown Ford here in the GTA yesterday. I also feel bad for people who have their cars in for service and now they're locked out and can't get their vehicles.

The owner of the dealership who resides in Auroura is out of the Country and his house is empty and for sale.

This is not a good situation for Northtown customers.

Holy crap. Its like the Jetsgo incident. I bet it just happen without any word..

I wish everyone luck who was affiliated with that companie. You would think FORD would step up to prevent this

fast Ed 04-08-2005 07:02 PM

The Hadleys were trying to sell the franchise, but Ford would not approve the potential new owners ... is the story I heard at work today. Terrible when a big store like that closes up.

cheers
Ed N.

So what do the people do that have their work cars/trucks inside? There's gotta be a way to get their stuff outta there

cobracory 04-09-2005 05:02 AM

Damn... I didn't hear about this until now.
Northtown is the closest Ford dealership just up the road from me.

John_McKean 04-09-2005 06:44 AM

Northtown Down

My '05 GT was due to arrive there in a few weeks. Lucky it wasn't there yesterday! I feel awfull for those who have their cars locked up there.

Does anyone know of a web support group for Northtown victims?

Does Ford have anything on-line? Google struck out and Ford's search engine returned nothing.

cobracory 04-09-2005 06:58 AM

This is the second dealership that I know of that closed their doors.
Albeit, Rowland Ford merged/was bought out by Donway Ford.

And now Northtown.

I personally did not have a good experience purchasing a vehicle from them.
And I found their service dept lacking in some areas. 60mins for an oil change?

I think I'll swing by there after work and see what's up.

John_McKean 04-09-2005 07:10 AM

An aquaintance of mine is/was a salesman there. Doug Coulson - interviewed on CFTO news last night. I'll call him later (knowing Doug, he's gonna need to sleep off last night's wake).

Rumors

Rumor has it that Northtown will reopen soon, for a while at least, to clear up the mess.

03WhiteGT 04-11-2005 09:40 PM

that's terrible news. is it open again?

Darkhorse 04-12-2005 11:47 AM

Dealerships can't survive on Trucks and Sports cars alone. What did you think would happen with everyone buying Toyota, Honda, Nissan. Birchcliff was gone recently too, sadly, only more to come. Both GM and Ford have had huge downgrades in the stock market recently too.

OhYes05 04-12-2005 12:42 PM

One of the guys I work with picked up an 05 GT Vert 2 weeks ago from these guys. I mentioned that they closed down/bankrupt. Boy was he ever happy he go his car in time!

Birchcliff has been gone for many years now. It was a shame to see it close up.

Northtown Phone Number

You can try this number: (905) 764-4104

The message recorder is full though, and the attendant's line feeds back to the recording.

I called Ford of Can. but thay can't tell me if my GT is scheduled without a dealer order number which, of course, I must get from the dealer.

John_McKean 04-13-2005 01:14 PM

Northtown may reopen by 22-APR

The car gods smiled on me and I was able to get inside this afternoon. The guy who came to get rid of me said the new owners were hoping to reopen as early as next week with mostly the same staff.

Birchcliff however was not a bankruptcy. That was by choice, both the dealer and Ford. They are now Douglas Ford in Barrie.

i would do whatever it takes. those garage doors would be blown right off my friend.

John_McKean 04-14-2005 06:14 PM

I understand that people were able to get their cars out fairly quickly. The new owners are anxious to keep their clientelle.

Stang Seller 04-19-2005 12:37 PM

I sell to the dealerships service departments, I spoke to Dean Twig towards the end of March and he informed me that within 3 weeks (which should be now) the dealership should be undergoing an ownership change. I called with no luck, no answer....... I dont know what to think here.... it sucks. I expect Ford will probably take up the slack and make right whatever is wrong here.

Northtown Resurection

Talked to two former NTF salesmen today. Peter Tino is now at Palladini and Doug Coulson will start at Yorkdale next Monday. Tino cold-called and wanted me to switch my order to Palladini but I'll stay with Coulson (he's a neighbor). Both doubt NTF will reopen anytime soon.

MUSTANG GUY 04-20-2005 12:22 AM

I heard by another member on this forum that the owner had to sell cuz he owed too much money to the bank. He found buyers but Ford did not approve them so when the dealership closed the bank took over the dealership and all the cars and the owner left the country and no one knows where he is.

Donno if this is true or not but its the story Ive been told

John_McKean 04-20-2005 05:41 AM

I heard that NTF has a new owner (the same one FoC had earlier turned down). Apparently they plan to reopen in May, but I heard an opinion that they may convert the property to other uses.

Who knows? I just want my GT!

SNAKEBITE 04-24-2005 06:08 AM

And your head has not literally exploded yet :banghead: :banghead: I wish you the best!

ZR 5.0 04-25-2005 04:08 PM

Does anyone know of an exact date?

John_McKean 04-29-2005 10:33 AM

My (former and maybe future) salesman was told May 6th by the new owners. He is being interviewed next week.

Darkhorse 04-30-2005 09:27 AM

What ever it is they're doing, they better move faster. Did everyone get their flyer this week? Al Palladini's sent a flyer to the better part of the region announcing that Northtown is closed and of course, they would be more than willing to take on new customers. :bleh:

cobracory 04-30-2005 10:00 AM

I just came here to post that I got the Al Palladini flyer too.

The $29.95 Spring Maintenance looks like a decent deal though.
Oil change with tire rotation. :)

The funny part is the recycle bin in the mailroom at my condo was full of the flyers. :)

I agree - everyone around here (Willowdale) has seen it.
Coupled with the CFTO news story, I imagine almost everyone
thinks they're gone for good.

mstang 11-11-2005 09:08 AM

Northtown is now Yonge-Steeles F/L Sales

They should have called it North-Court.

The new owner is Rai Sahi of East-Court F/L and Freeway Ford and Bay F/L as well as Parkway Chrysler and other import stores.

Their sales process is a little different, but they will get the volume that area can support.

John_McKean 11-11-2005 02:09 PM

I went up there to see my old sales friend Doug Coulson, who got his job back when they re-opened. Beats selling Volvos he says.

The place was pretty busy. Lots of customers for a Wednesday afternoon.

It's nice for service because I live close enough to have the shuttle drive me home.

PS: Further up the thread I mentioned that my $1000 deposit vanished in the bankrupcy. The best I could hope for was $100. At Doug's urging, I called Mastercard to see if they could get a refund. Bingo! The $1000 showed up as a credit the next month.

Lesson: Always use a credit card for deposits.
