2 Tires - Road and Track

Nitto NT 05 for my 2010 Mustang GT Track Pack version that has 19 inch wheels and a Ford Racing Suspension. 245 40 R19 rated W – Load 98

Or Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position 245 45 R19 Rated Y Load is 96.

What do you think? Thanks. Alan

I'm a Bridgestone/Firestone guy, so that would be my personal choice. However, the Nitto seems a little more track focused, so if you plan any autoX or pay-per-lap events, that tire may work better for you.

fast Ed 02-28-2012 07:28 AM

+1

I haven't driven on the Bridgestones yet, but I do know that the NT-05 works nice on the newer Mustangs. My buddy who tracks the 07 GT has been running them for a few years. Anything 245 width for such a big car is a compromise though. I thought that you were ordering a set of the D-Force 18x10" wheels?

cheers
Ed

X3 for the Nitto's

DublDee 02-29-2012 11:07 AM

A friend of mine runs his 2010 GT on Nitto Extreme Performance NT555. He has tried several different tire packages on his car, and says these are the best he's tried for off the line traction, and cornering! I really like my Pirelli P Zero Summer tires, but haven't done any real driving on them yet!

fast Ed 02-29-2012 01:12 PM

My friend with the 07 had tried the 555 on his car before going to the NT-05. They were OK, nothing spectacular. I drove it a few times when he still had the 555s on it. On track they would grip decently on dry, warm days, but if it was spring or fall with cool temps, or wet, they weren't very good. Cooler days, they would understeer going in to the corner, and oversteer on the way out. In the exact same conditions we tried the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 rubber off my Super Coupe on his car, much better.

cheers
Ed

Yeah, I would definitely take Fast Eds advice, as he has obviously had experience with this, and knows what he's talking about. Me on the other hand....well I'm just going on hear-say, and have had no experience with the tires myself. Once again, great advice Fast Ed:tup

X2 for sure ^^^^

I had Nitto drag radials and they were great

SNAKEBITE 03-01-2012 11:33 AM

Thanks for your response. I am going to change my e-mail address to my business address so that I can get to each message on a more timely basis.

Just ordered the Nitto NT-05s. But they are 40 profile and not 45 as the OEM P-Zeros.
And my winte4rs are 17 inch mag wheels. Can you recommend a device to recalibrate the speedometer? Steeda has the SCT 'X3' Custom Tune Flash Device but it does not mention whether it can recalibrate the speedo. Thx. Alan

I'm pretty sure that tuner requires a custom tune so if you tell your tuner the tire sizes they will be able to make the changes for you.

RationalAlan 03-05-2012 11:50 AM

Yea. But not for long. I have him the signal topass on the next straight and before I got my arm back into the car, he was a dot in the distance. I'm going to pick up my toires on Thursday and am thinking about July at Watkins Glen. Alan

RationalAlan 03-05-2012 11:52 AM

If you are looking for a good school at Watkins Glen, check out my friend Joe Quaranto's events, he is based out of Rochester NY:

I am hoping to get down there to instruct at one of his events this summer. It has probably been 6 or 7 years since I've been at WGI. Awesome track and facility.

http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...C9593F06E5AE3D and ***Watkins Glen II, Mike Scanlan Memorial Event - Monday and Tuesday, August 20 and 21, 2012***
and http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...53FBCA786A04E2 are two event I'm looking at.

Where are you located? There are some good events at Tremblant with NEQ and also with my club ... BMW Club of Quebec. Alan

fast Ed 03-05-2012 02:55 PM

I'm just NW of Toronto. I'd love to do Tremblant, I've only crewed at races up there, never driven the track. I'm involved a bit with the Toronto (Trillium chapter) BMW club, instructing for them at Mosport, and I did one event for the Ottawa chapter when Calabogie first opened.

cheers
Ed

RationalAlan 03-05-2012 10:03 PM

It's a neat track and nice village. There is a spring event, one in Auguest and another in September. If you are interested, I can put you in touch with Henry Wong, the BMW Quebec club president. Rgds, Alan

RationalAlan 03-05-2012 10:05 PM

Let me know if and when you go to the Glen. I'll look you up! Alan

SNAKEBITE 03-06-2012 03:36 PM

I love watching racing at the Glen
