Sorry for the late reply. I've been out all day. That looks like an interesting auction. Let me know what the '41 goes for. It is a 'slightly' upgraded model (D21) over mine (D20). Both are Canadian made cars. Thanks for passing that along.

I'll try, I'm going for some signs and my friend is going for the oil cans. Should be a good sale.

I have finally made the modification to the gas pedal cable. Recall that I am vertically challenged and find it very uncomfortable reaching the gas pedal with the seat adjusted for the brake.

As a disclaimer, note that I will describe in detail what I did to my car but I am not responsible for anything you may do to your car.

The first issue was to find a suitable nylon spacer. There are many, many on-line posts about doing this but no one gives a specific part for this spacer (only that they were 1 in. long). I searched in stores and on-line and was able to find some on the Lowes.ca website. Actually finding them in the store was another matter. I went in with the part number and nobody could tell me where they were actually located in the store. The Lowes in-house computer said for location 'specialty - hard to find'. After an hour in the store I finally found them in hardware in a drawer labelled 'nylon spacers'. Who would have thought . I have attached a photo of the specific part I used.

Next I placed the spacer in a vice and cut a slot length-wise using a hack saw. I actually had to make a second cut to widen the slot to be able to fit it over the cable.

I disconnected the accel. cable at the throttle body which allowed the cable to drop 6 in. or so for easier access under the dash.

After much gymnastics I had the spacer attached with the two hose clamps. Not sure how a large person would do this without removing the front seat.

This mod. brought the accel. pedal out to be just even with the brake pedal. I didn't feel comfortable with it like that so I made up a shorter (3/4 in.) spacer and swapped them out. Now the pedal is about 1/2 in. below the brake pedal.

I think that I can see why Ford designed the pedal so far down. In the original configuration, the gas pedal is still below the brake pedal even with the brake pedal fully depressed.

I am going to run it like this for a while and see how it works out. So far, I can actually move the seat further back and still reach both pedals comfortably.

Thanks and no problem. I have had my '41 since 1973 and it isn't leaving me any time soon. Just curious.

According to the paper work taped to the window he had owned it from the 80's and was about the fourth or fifth owner. It had been restored, but not off frame. There were a few flat beds there, so someone wanted it. It was in really nice condition and clean.
