Looking for some advice on the amount of time required for this repair. My driver's side power seat has been making grinding noises and occasionally is stubborn about moving. I took it to the dealer yesterday. They tell me they need to replace the motor and track and will need the car for 24-48 hours. I asked why so long and they said they had to take more than just the seat out, they also need to take out the carpet. This doesn't sound right to me.

Also, is the track and motor a single component or is it just typical that Ford is replacing the entire unit? This is covered under warranty.

 

I can't see why the carpet would have to be removed. As far as I know the motor should be mounted on the track assembly and should come complete. I'm thinking it shouldn't be much more than a 2-3 hour job. I may be wrong as I am just going off what I have seen on other models. It should be covered under warranty.

 

Thanks for the info. That's the same thing I'm hearing on another forum...2-3 hours. Why the heck would they tell me 1-2 days? Are they just trying to get me to leave the car there so they can work on it when they have the time?

 

Not sure if 2011 is same as 2006, but when I pulled my seats out last year it took me about 30 minutes to get them out. Follow the procedure to disable the air bags, 4 bolts to undo per seat rail (front and back of rails), unplug motor, lift out. Motor, rail and seat are all one. They go back in just as easy. If you have to work on rails, motors or anything related it's all under the seat. They go back just as easy.

After asking again for clarification today, they tell me that they tell the customers it will take more than a day in case they run into any trouble and have to order more parts. I'd rather be told the truth than have them pad the time. I've been around cars long enough to know that if there's problems they will have to wait overnight for parts. And I can also figure out that this type of job shouldn't have problems unless they screw up something when they're taking it apart or the replacement part is also junk.

Amazing how much anxiety this is causing for me. I'm not impressed with leaving my car anywhere where I can't watch what they're doing. I've even taken off the chrome strut tower covers that fit tight to the hood, just in case they decide to open the hood (which they shouldn't) and then drop it too heavily.

 

I'd get the work done somewhere else. These guys are already trying to screw you.

 

Saw your post last night VAEM, but I already had an appt to get the seat fixed this morning. Fortunately it all worked out. Within 10 minutes of arriving I heard her being driven into the shop. The job was done in 2 hours!

Red Pony I have inherited my late brothers 2011 Mustang and the drivers seat track is broken and in permanent furthest position.
A few years ago we had brought it to the Ford dealership here in Guelph and were quoted $1700 to replace. I wondered if that sounded correct with what you had to do to yours many years ago.
