brake convertion on my 82 ttop good for all pre 86 stangs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok the swap to bigger rotors, spindles, calipers was easy enough did it in like 4 hours being that ive never done this befor i think it went quick the only things that went wrong was one of the brake lines didnt fit exactly i need a adapter to install the line and befor i did the swap i did a bunch of reading and it didnt say any thing about my next problem ok my car is stock keep that in mind 14 inch rims well they dont fit now so im buying 15 inch stock rims off a 88 gt for 150.00 hoping they fit now if your wandering about the convertion i used , i went w/ rotors and spindles off a 87 - 93 5.0 mustang and calipers off a 86 lincoln mark 7 , it went killer easy as pie just a couple minnor heads up if you plan on doing this to you pre 86 stang

here goes well ill make this for the 82 mustang only to save some of you other the problems i have had with this change over
i have completed the brake upgrade conversion on my 82 ttop stang . i ran into a few problems but there easily solved if you have the info and parts readily accesable [ dont do this conversion on a holiday week end you may need some thing ] thats my first sugestion

ok to start with you need to buy rotors and spindles for a 87-93 5.0 stang [ remember 5.0 only and 87-93 only if you want to keep your 4 lug] and youll need to buy calipers for a 86 -91 lincoln mark 7 , good pads for a lincoln mark 7 [ i also bought new brake lines for the caliper also for the lincoln they are side sensitive so get them both] you will need to buy a adapter for the brake line on the driver side [ it cost me two dollars at OR - CAL supply company ] you will need it to complete this job , brake fluid and some absorbant stuff like kitty liter ,new bearings inner and outer, grease to pack them with and the dust seals for the back of the rotors[ remember your buying theys parts for a 87 - 93 now ,not your year stang ] and depending on the year youll most likly need new struts .... parts that are sugested are steel braded brake line and steel inserts for the calipers that you can get from steeda [ but i dont recomend steeda in any way they have given me nothing but more question then answers]and if you have the stock 14 inch rims on it youll need new rims i went w/ 15s off a 88 5.ogt [ found that one out the hard way] if you change your struts youll need an alingment

the tools you will need are your basic hand tolls preferably 1/2 drive , 1, they tend to be stronger ,2, the 1/2 drive set will have the sizes youll need for the job[ just remeber that youll be doing some tourquing so good tools are your friend on this install]best if you have air tools but there not a requirement , and youl need a ball joint spliter set to seperate the ball joints and the spindle from the a-arm , a floor jack and two jack stands.

it took me about 4 hours to do the job and thing went really smoth i started on the pass side for shade reason and soon found out that it was a good idea the pass side doesnt need the adapter for the brake line [witch i found out later, that one was needed for the drivers side] things went right together i was shocked [ nothing ever goes the way there sopposed to w/ me]

theres not much to it simple if you ask me just make sure you have every thing ive listed and you should be ok if theres any thing ive missed ill add it later but as far as i can remember thats it

so far i got like 300.00 dollars in it so far and it at the alingment shop right now been w/out my car for two days now so make sure you have every thing or youll end up like i did [ with out a car for a couple of days well se how things go after i get my car back to day when i took the kids to the sitter this morning it stopped realy well if it werent for the need for alingment it would have turned out sweet [ but i brought that on my self didnt get new struts ] a little heads up on the spindle , the 87-93 spindle is narrower than the 82 were the strut attaches that is why youll need new struts [ i didnt get them just socked the nut ,bolt down till it colapsed the mount braket on the strut that why its in the shop now for the alingment when i get new struts itll need another one so dont do like i did just get the struts and do it right]
