Brake Pads / Rotors
I'm looking to buy some new pads and rotors (front/back) today or tomorrow since I NEED them. What's a good brand for both? I'm kinda weary about getting cross drilled ones because a lot of them crack, but I guess they would need to be from a reputable dealer.
97 Mustang Cobra btw |
hey, went i first got my cobra, i asked the same questions.
i was told but the parts guy and other ppl on forums, that you don't need cross drilled rotors, unless you plan on road racing. nxghost will also tell you to get brembo rotors.(i think) i personally went with napa ceramic brake pads and their house brand of rotors. i didn't get the high quility rotors but the second best ones. i get a little bit of squealing every now and then but no warping of the rotors. i think when i priced every thing out napa was fas the cheapest out of all of them. hope that helps! good luck |
How are those ceramic pads under normal driving? I know the ceramic rotors need to be warmed up before they're effective...
|
Just get a good set of factory rotors and pads. If the car calls for semi-metallic, get those. the hard ones tend to squeek too much

just a tad bit of smell when really really hard braking, but im sure you get that with any set up. |
Like White Snake said... I will say get Brembos! I went though many sets before realizing ford also had the same problem and switched suppliers in 1999 to Brembo. Problem solved. Although white snake has the napa's. It has been a short period of time and I wouldnt count out any problems yet. Try a few 160-170km/h stop at the end of a dragstrip and you will know right away if you got a bum set.

My suggestion
My suggestion would be Brembo calipers and pades. They are the best i've found. I have cross drilled rotors, calipers and pades by Brembo, Let me tell you the brakes are awesome. I have them on my 1988 Gt
They are well worth it.. |
I've been dragging my ass on buying these because I can't seem to make up my mind. Does Brembo make pads too? I think I'm going to go with their rotors but can't seem to find any pads from them.
NXGHOST, where did you buy your Brembos at? |
You can get whole Brembo sets at steeda.ca...http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing39.gif
|
$1700 sets... don't see pads/rotors alone...
|
Brembo 13" and 14" Brakes
From Formula 1 to Indycars, one name stands at the top for brakes. Brembo. Steeda proudly offers the top of the line brake kit available for your Mustang. Huge four piston calipers squeeze specially designed rotors for unmatched stopping power. These kits come with calipers, slotted or drilled rotors, pads, stainless steel brake hoses, and everything else needed to bolt them onto your Mustang. |
Oh..you dont need the whole set...I got you
PM miester..I'm sure they can get them..and there pretty local too. |
Right, those are the ones for the brembo calipers, I just need ones for the Cobra. I'll see what his prices are, my cousin is supposed to get me a quote on Monday too...
|
I got the brembo's at Tirerack.com. I didnt use brembo pads. At first I used a performance pad (Cant remember the name) and they squeeled like a pig! Everyone kept telling me I need brakes. I then went to the stock Ford pads made by PBR.

Best Brakes are KVR. We have had the engineer at the shop quite a few times (Cobra Customer/supplier) and the guy is just a wizard. Not bashing other companies, but really making you understand why they do what they do...very smart dude
You can check out a killer KVR setup on the 05 we will have on display at Perf. World. |
Do you sell these KVR brakes? How much for pads/rotors front/back?
|
We are a KVR dealer...very tight with the lead engineer. prices to come
|
you have a pm
|
I ended up ordering Brembo rotors and pads (front/rear) from a local shop, should have them early next week :tup
I decided that I NEEDED them after mine felt crunchy after a hard stop from a fairly fast speed. Now I need to figure out the shift bouncing thing and get my suspension done and the car should be all set. :tup |
