Brakes

Why are Brembo's all that and a bag of chips? If you had to go out and buy a set how much would it cost? Are they that much better than the stockers on the Pony?

Uhhh Yeah comparing stock brakes to Brembo's is like comparing the the 4.6 to the new Coyote 5.0. imo.

So like 13.4 inches compared to 14? Brembos are bigger and slotted for more cooling. How many 4.6 lose cylinder #8 after a tune? How many blow there trany under the advertised HP?

Touchy touchy. Sorry dude, I'm just stating my opinion. I've had both the 4.6 and factory brakes, and the new 5.0 with the Brembo pack, and I'm only going by experience, so what do I know:LOL:

Whats up with the #8 cyl blowing??? Never heard of that one yet. As for the tranny, sorry man, I've seen several of the old tranny's on the 05-10 blow. I don't think tranny's were ever Fords forte. Anyway, I'm not putting your car down, or any other 4.6, just making a comparison. Sorry!

^ there has been engine issues with some of the 5.0 and aftermarket tunes. Ford sent us a bulletin about it.

They are definitely better, and in the world of brakes that just means bigger and better cooled. Like anything though I think most of the price is just you paying for the Brembo name.

I must admit that I changed from stock to the Powerslot rotors for the slotted rotor look and the advertised better cooling system.

Doesn't have to be Brembos, but a near 4,000 lb. car with 12 or 13" rotors and dual-piston calipers isn't going to cut it for slowing down from higher speeds ... physics, the silent killer. Rotors need a certain amount of mass to be able to shed the heat that builds up, and the basic GT brakes won't do it for 500+ hp. The 14" rotors and 4-piston Brembos that come on the GT-500, Boss 302, and Track Pak GT are a good step up at a reasonable price. To swap those on to any other S197 car is about $1200 worth of parts, a good deal for premium brakes.

As an added note, the 2013 GT-500 with 650 hp is moving up to 6-piston Brembo calipers, with larger rotors, 15" I believe.

cheers
Ed

I'm actually suprised you havnt heard about this with all the posting and researching that you seem to do. But ya, a bunch of the first tunes that bama and some others came out with were blowing the #8 cylander for some reason or other, sounds like at least bama has it figured.
