I bought my mustang in April, 2005 with all the goodies I wanted and was $28,800.00. I put $13,500.00down and the remainder was to be financed through my bank at CIBC. So went it came time to pickup the mustang I came into the dealersship with a bank draft for $15,300.00. The Ford dealership finanace manager (female) told me I would need an extra $230.00. When I asked her what for she advised it was for the "administration fee" which covers the "new vehicle identification card" that is sent directly from the Ford Plant to the dealership over the internet and printed off at the dealership. Needless to say I was pretty pissed at Ford and the dealership. The bank manager that I had dealt with for many years was pretty understanding an just added the admin fee to the loan, which meant another trip back to the bank etc. After dealing with this issue then I had to deal with the usual sales pitch for other add on's such as polymer sealants etc., with the finance manager trying to tell me that the dealerhip does not make money on selling cars but on selling extra services. Bullshit I say. I told the finance manager that I would do the polymer sealant myself. I left the dealerhip on 22 April, 2005 with my new mustang but prior to leaving I told the salesperson that until FORD changes their unexplained "administration fee policy" I would not buy another car from them. One wonders why the dealerhip sales people could not be up front during the "deal" to explain the admin fee and any extras the dealerhip may try to sell? With internet services being relatively cheap i don't think it costs very must to send NVIC printout to a dealership. The crap that they do not make money selling cars and trucks makes no sense, otherwise why would the dealership be in business. I rate car sales people below real estate agents and dentists.

Ray,

That's the whole thing right there, the fact that i've not met one who could just be up front. (I'm sure they're out there)

In any case, I revised my offer to the dealer today adjusting my offer to pay for the few hundred bucks of "doc fee" required by the finance manager, but reducing the price of the car by the same amount. I told the dealer another dealer is willing to do this and if they could match, we'd have a deal. I thought i was complying that i was now going to pay for the "doc fee" to satisfy the finance manager. Apparently, my revised offer was now not accepted by the sales manager.

So over $500 bucks (over bogus doc fee that they can't explain clearly), they lost not only a sale but long term business. Just goes to show once again, most are interested only in doing business with you once and take you for a ride that one time...

I think there is a joke here..something along the line of "What does a ex-wife, a tornado and a car salesman" have in common but I can't think of a punch line.

How can you tell when a salesperson is lying? His lips are moving.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
A guy goes hunting and wants to hire a dog to retrieve the catch.

"I have just the dog for you, sir." says the gamekeeper. "He's called Salesman and he is brilliant" Off they go and every time the hunter shoots a bird the dog runs off and brings the bird back just as he was hired to do; a great success.

The following year, the same guy goes back and asks for Salesman as he was so good last year.

"Ah, I'm sorry, sir, but it won't work anymore. Someone had the bright idea of calling him Sales Manager - now he just sits on his **** and barks all day".
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Jersey Shore’s Snooki signed autographs for fans to help aPA car dealership raise funds for Haitian relief efforts. Sadly, the dealership had to pay outwhat they raised to get rid of that “new skank” smell from the showroom.

Ray,

Very funny and so far so true!

Now here's an update...the dealer that i turned down due to the doc fee, sent me an email this morning saying they have a "problem with my calculations" lol.

The "problem" is i deducted the 2% holdback fee to the price of the dealer cost of car which they agreed to initially, and somehow in his revised counter offer (after i stated i was going to pass them up and did not request a counter offer), is mysteriously tacked on. In other words, their counter off is now even higher than the original offer they accepted, and on top of this, his still insisting on the doc fee. In other words, his counter offer adds $1389!
He then has the nerve to state that they're only making $2200 profit to pay for salaries, overhead, etc off the sale of this car....geez...imagine that kind of profit over each car they scam off everyone else...

The dealer's management must really love steaks and caviar dinners, vacation homes, high end luxury cars, all derived from doc fee of $500 a sale.

It's good business if we can get it. I just think i'd be giving up too much ethics and morals to be successful at this..i'd get fired for being up front and honest...

It's best to walk away from that dealership and move on to another. What dealership is it anyway.

Ray,

That's exactly what i've done. Basically, they would accept the wholesale (invoice) price, of which i deducted 2% for the holdback fee off the MSRP, then added my offer of 3% profit. I thought this was a reasonable offer and they thought so too therefore they verbally accepted then wanted to tack doc fee. Their counter offer amounted to tacking back on the 2% holdback fee, and the doc fee.

Basically, telling the customer to buzz off...
