Cats off my Pony?

Can I remove 2 of my 4 cats without any problems with my computer. I am leaving on the 2 cats coming off the header's. I was told I can get better gas milage plus a bit more HP with no cats:D??

Thanks,Whitelion.

ChadStang 12-11-2011 02:44 PM

If you get a check engine light you can purchase a set of MIL Eliminators and they will take care of it.

Whitelion95GT 12-11-2011 03:27 PM

Thanks, ChadStang

1low03gt 12-11-2011 07:08 PM

I think you should be okey. Wouldn't be different then getting an aftermarket 2 catted mid pipe which cause no MIL.... on most cases that is, there has been the odd acception.

Whitelion95GT 12-11-2011 07:58 PM

Yes, I heard a dude putting on off road X pipes with muffles with maybe no problems???

SNAKEBITE 12-11-2011 09:11 PM

what about the inspection one must go through in B.C?

Whitelion95GT 12-11-2011 11:02 PM

We don't have aircare on the island so I;m Ok on that one.

SNAKEBITE 12-12-2011 01:54 AM

wow that's good to hear

Come to think about it..... I think it's only the OBDII equipped cars that would set the MIL on, so that would be '98 to present. So even with the off road, one should be good, unless they got pulled over by the ministry.

Thats good to hear, Thanks

I think you are correct on that one. I wasn't paying attention but good save. :tup

Whitelion95GT 12-12-2011 10:35 PM

So I should be ok if I take off the 2 cats??

ChadStang 12-12-2011 10:54 PM

You would be ok to take all 4 out. If I were you I'd just buy an off road h pipe. You will see better gains from that and the sound will be nice.

Whitelion95GT 12-13-2011 12:47 PM

I believe you are right on that one, That is why I wanted to take off the cats for a better sound.

SNAKEBITE 12-13-2011 04:21 PM

Nothing like a mean sounding 8 for sure.

It just hit me. LOL! I couldn't believe i didn't catch it right away myself!! :bleh:

But i agree with you on just purchasing a new midpipe. Easier this way, plus he would get to keep the stocker JUST IN CASE!!!:?

I think they are the shops turbo mufflers. She sounds ok but not a great sound. I know she would sound a lot better with no cats. I think the off road x pipe is a about 3 hundred plus laber is pricey??

ChadStang 12-13-2011 10:33 PM

^ on your car I would do an h pipe instead of an x. Labor shouldn't be bad at all, max 1 hour.

Whitelion95GT 12-14-2011 01:36 AM

That sounds good. I'll have to get that checked out after Xmas. Thanks Man..

SNAKEBITE 12-14-2011 04:11 PM

best time re savings, good luck

So you really think it would only be an hour Labour? Thats not too bad and the h pipes can't cost that much?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I can't see it being any longer as it's only 8 bolts/nuts as long as they don't run into broken or seized parts. If you look at a company like Mac or flowtech you can get a pretty reasonably priced pipe.

SNAKEBITE 12-15-2011 05:11 PM

I would think a H would sound better on my car to?????

Alot of it depends on your muffler choice and the sound you like. An h pipe will give you a deeper sound where an x pipe is a raspier high pitched sound. Again you need to pair it up with the right muffler for the right sound. Usually a chambered muffler seems to sound better with an h pipe.

^^^sorry to hear

Whitelion95GT 12-21-2011 10:29 PM

Changing the subject, I was reading about the BBK- H-pipe giving you more HP but loosing some tork, because it has no back pressure. Is this true?

ChadStang 12-21-2011 10:32 PM

I know that's been said about long tube headers but I've never heard it on an H pipe.

Whitelion95GT 12-21-2011 10:56 PM

My mustang has the shorty headers so she should be ok. However it is better to have more tork then hp, Yes?
