I was wondering and I am pretty sure that really young kids ie under 4-6 can't be all that expensive. From the age of 4-6 kids start looking for designer cloths cell phones computers and then when they become teenagers they may want a car etc. I have heard of parents spending 200+ on a pair of running shoes=ouch. Damn I don't own a 200.00 pair of running shoes.

Like you stated in your post, parents today tend to spoil their children and that's great if they can afford that or the child/children respect what their parents have purchased for them. Geez when I was 12 I started working and a large chunk of my pay was given to my parents so we could keep a roof over our heads and the stomach full. I suppose that's why I treat anything I purchase with the greatest respect ie waxing the car (ok that's a little overboard lol) washing the vacuum cleaner washing the siding on the house every week and scrubbing it once a month etc etc as I have had to pay for anything I have ever owned.

As a teenager I was embarrassed when pops dropped me off in front of high school as I was riding in a rusted out Ford wagon. I always swore I would work hard and always drive in a nice and go figure rust free/waxed to the 9's vehicle. To me you could drive a Hyundai Excel or Mercedes SLK, as long as it's KLEEEEN you would get my respect. End of my blathering (for now lol)

For me having my 8 yearold, and my 2 yearold twins has nothing to do with my choice on keeping my stang,i knew i was planning on keeping my stang when i was looking to purchase it.Not everyone thinks that way,but some do.
I find that most, not all,but most feel they need to keep up with the "Jones".Their neighbour bought this car,so one feels they need to do so to,then the next new model comes out,it starts all over again. The only positive i see with this is it keeps those factories going, but it all catches up as we have seen in the last few years.Credit can only go so far.Have we learned anything.I say no,we haven't learned a single thing out of this downfall. But this is another topic LOL!
So again,no,i have no plans to sale my GT,but one day i would like a '93 Cobra sitting in the garage beside her.And if i ever do get that '93 Cobra,i do not,yes that's right,i do not plan on leaving it stock except for the visuals part on the exterior, well,it will need a cowl hood LOL! I will enjoy it as have so far with my '03.

We have 2 kids ages 5 and 8. Childcare in our area starts at $30/day per child! Before and after school programs here are $12/day per child.

Life insurance to leave to our children adds up and increases substantially as we get older. RESP's - look at the costs of education today and try to figure out what is going to be enough in the future. We are in line to have $100,000 saved between the two of them by the time they go to college or university and I don't think that will be enough. We are still paying off our student loans and don't want our kids to have to do that.

Our kids are both in hockey, soccer and swimming lessons during the year. Hockey for our son alone this year was $300 plus the cost of new equipment of about $500 and that is with borrowing goalie pads for him and using some equipment from last year - he's only 8!

I don't remember exactly but, when they were babies, diapers, formula and food would easily have been over $500/mth not to mention all the other supplies, medicines, and the clothes and shoes that they still continue to outgrow at an alarming rate (and we rarely buy anything brand name).

My son eats as much as my husband - I can hardly wait until he turns 13 and empties the fridge everyday after school.

We have friends that are not able to have children and I really feel for them. I think they would have paid any amount of money to change that!

So, to get back on topic I sold my 2002 GT vert last year but only because I was buying the 2006 GT and hope to have this one for a long time. I feel extremely lucky to even have a Mustang and I don't care that it is used, I wouldn't have one if I had to buy brand new. I saved almost half the cost of new and it's not on payments because of that.
