Ford Racing Gears...be Careful
Ford Racing's catalog says this about the M-4209-373N:
"Replaces our popular M-4209-F373. New manufacturing technology utilizing a Face Hob process which features a single-pass pinion tooth machining operation compared to a conventional three pass process for machining. CNC cut and lapped gear teeth. Higher strength and better quality gears are produced with the Face Hob process. Note: These gears look a little different, the gear teeth are cut on a different angle and the ring gear has a bevel on the back of the gear."
This partnumber is called out for 'Mustang/Ranger/F-150 8.8"' axles.
Sounds like one or more of a bad setup, a bad set of gears, possibly a mismatched ring & pinion (since they are lapped as a matching pair during machining)...

I've had one frpp gear set over the past 8 years that we had trouble setting up.
Ford racing gears are, by far the easiest to set up, and much quieter than richmonds if set up properly.
Sounds like you got a bad set...
The "n" replaced the regular 4209f373's a couple (or more) years ago.

It was noted above that the old number gears were replaced with the "n" gears. Which meant the correct gears were installed. That means that any problems with them must have been related to the installation.

i have had richmond and will not tell anyone to buy them. They where set up perfect with the best pattern a mid backlash and no matter what they where noisy. I now have 3:73's ford gears and they are whiper quiet. I love them and i will never go back.
