fuel lines?

fuel lines?

This is the situation; I was cleaning underneath the car near the tank because it’s swas too dirty. As I was doing that a fuel line end connected to the flexible fuel line broke. I took out the metal piece that was stuck in the flexible fuel line but now I need to change the fuel line that goes to the engine bay. Today I went to Napa to buy stainless steel fuel line to bend and flare the ends my self. Then the guy at Napa said that you might be able to buy a pre-bent line and just install it. Is that true or was he just assuming things?

My other question is where can I find the identification plate that is usually in the engine bay. I'm trying to find the exact year of my friend’s mustang and carfax is giving me a 1985 mustang 4 cyl.(this is using the vin # from the dashboard) When it's in fact the '87+ headlights, which tells me it’s an ‘87+ year, and it’s a 5.0. The manufacturer build date that you usually find on the door jam sticker is faded beyond recognition.

i just did brake lines on a topaz, and was also told the same thing. how ever, i found it real easy just to repair the section that was damaged.

if you want, just call your local ford dealer.

ford dealers will only be able to sell you make it yourself lines. You might be able to get premade lines from a restoration company? like latemodel resoration supply? will most likely depend on the year of the car though

That’s what I was thinking about. First I’ll try to do what white snake said than check any restoration companies that have prebent lines and if all else fail, I’ll buy and bend them my self.

Any thoughts on the identification plate? I don’t like comparing companies because their all different but I know that Nissan 300zx has the identification of the engine, transmission, paint colour, build plant on a plat and is riveted on the right strut tower. Do fox body mustangs have anything similar to it in the engine bay?

foxs have a plate on the front cradle for the rad by the drivers-side bumper bracket.

you also won't be able to get premade lines, but you can buy all the parts individually from a jobber to make your own lines.

if its a fuely car, DO NOT USE RUBBER AND CLAMPS.

ok, im going to have to look into it deeper i guess and see what im going to have to do. thanks for your help and i'll let you know how it goes.

Its very likely that the car is either:

A) An early 4-cyl 5.0L conversion car with the newer-style aero nose bolted on it

OR

B) A late model with the VIN plate switched so it could be insured as a 4-banger.

yeah, im leaning toward the vin plate being switched. i just checked with belair and it's $51 cheaper to insure the 4 cyl. over the 8 cyl.

Well, does it look tampered with? Its still a "4-cyl" via the vin if its a 5.0 swap, unless of course the person insuring it is honest...........

It doesn’t really look tampered with. I’ll be taking a closer eye tomorrow when there’s light. Some illegal been going around in its past. As I said before, the vin number from the dash states it’s an ’85 4 cyl. That’s the reason why I want to know where the plate that has the same info about the transmission, colour, engine etc. I want to compare the two and if possible, to even check the serial number on the engine if accessible. It’s better this way, now I don’t have to emission test since it’s a 1985 and would have cheaper insurance over the V8s. I think I can live with that.
