The "H" vs the "X"
Little ignorance here. What is the differences between these 2 mid sections. I'm pricing out various systems for my 3.8. My muffler shop says to just cut off part of the original 'Y' behind the cats and extend into true duals with Magnaflows. He said I may find Flowmasters a little too loud. Need some advice or opinions.

if you want the nice deep sound that is more raspy (thats a good raspy) get the H pipe and then flowmaster delta 40s. I love the sound. But end of the day its still a v6 so dont get ur hopes up to sound like a v8, but a lot of people cant tell on minethumb:

H pipe
What if I was to use magnaflows instead of flowmasters. I have been told magnaflows are a little quieter but sound good as well.

The Magnaflows are a great muffler also, you cant go wrong with either muffler.Just have your muffler shop make an H pipe...

H-Pipe all the way. Or you can grow some cohonaz and buy the Off Road Pro-Chamber LOL....but that is way too loud Just go with the H-pipe and you will be very happy with it.
Do you plan on running cats? |
yes I do plan on running cats.

The aftermarket catted H-Pipe is pretty pricey, off-road is alot cheaper. But you'll have to Pay to keep her legal.
Good luck |

magnaflows suck on a 3.8, go to 3.8mustang.com, they have sound clips and pros and cons for everything. but from personal experience get a set of gt mac cat backs, high flow cats (any kind) and an h-pipe. i had an x and it still sounded good but had a ghostly wallow to it. but it did roar like hell and was throaty. only con was going to a dumb ass exhaust shop and they droned, ppartly due to the xpipe since it didnt do it before hand. trust me go with that setup and you will laugh and magnaflow and flowmasters. contact lx351 on here, i purchased my stainless steel 98 gt mac catback from him and it was a good price and that was when our dollar sucked. and make sure you get an h-pipe

I have Magnaflows and would recommend them. The kit for the V6 is #16605,
MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust. |

There is no reason high HP cars cant run cats.
I know on my turbo setup the cats were an issue, but not a big enough issue for what, $500 fines and possible de-plate ? While I believe BBK makes a shitty product, you can still get a cheap catted hpipe by them on ebay for around $350 (click here) Flowmaster for a mustang. :tup |
is the x-pipe no good?
