have to remove tranny?

i was just wondering if it is ok to let the tranny hang by its cross member and shifter while the engine is out.
im going to have to pull it anyhow to do the clutch and some seals on it, but not right away.

When I use to remove my engine but not the trans I use to put a 2X2 across the frame rails at the fire wall and use two trans bolts threw the trans bolt holes and rest them on the 2X2. It held the trans with no problems. Hope this helps.

I usually just use a 2x4 from the top of the bellhousing to the k-member to hold it up.

Remove the engine, tranny and subframe in one shot. It will save a ton of work. You can spends hours just trying to get the clutch to line up with the input shaft leaving the trannk in. Drop the engine under the car on jacks and roll it out.

^That's quite a job, work on a hoist, but still takes more time IMO, pull the engine from the top, change the clutch and your seals with the trans still in, you shouldn't have to remove it unless the 2 halves are leaking where they come together.

I did this in my garage with no hoist but I surely would not do it in a driveway freezing my nuts off.

I agree with Ponyryd on this. Pulling the entire sub-frame is a little too extreme to do in your driveway. Also why would you go threw all that work just to get the engine out? Its really not that hard to line the input shaft back up.
