Having difficulty holding back...

I absolutely love driving my stang! She's a daily driver for me and always puts me in a good mood when I see her waiting for me in the parking lot when leaving work. And what a beautiful rumble when I turn the key. The only problem I'm having is with these nasty speed limit signs everywhere! Just when you're turning a corner on a lonely back country road, BAM, there's a sign looking right at you with a big fat 80. So every now and then I give her a little more for the thrill and excitement......but I feel like I'm disappointing her when I have to back off. It's crazy how the more you give, the more she gives back, just wanting to keep on pulling. Hopping on the 401 this past weekend and the guy in the right lane started to merge over to the left...ha...no worries buddy, stay where you are, I'll be in front in just 2 seconds. But it's only a few seconds and you've gotta back off. How do you guys handle it?

Looks like you two had an enjoyable time together!

2 words, Radar Detector!

hahaha

ChadStang 06-02-2011 09:47 PM

I have the same issue. I can't even top out 2nd gear without speeding. The 3.73's I've got to put in will let me atleast hit third before getting way over the limit.

Two words as a retired copper - speed kills. That's why we have speed limit signs, traffic enforcement etc. The place to let all those ponies loose is on an abandon air strip or a race track.

Unfortunately I don't have either near by. I'm not into top speed anyway, I just like the accelleration. I don't open it up in town or around any traffic for that matter either.

Apocalypse Pony 06-03-2011 10:57 AM

I figure there might be a speed limit, and I'm good with that, but I don't think there's a law on how fast you can GET to the speed limit!!

Ray's right dude, speed kills, and there's a lot of power under the foot. With great power comes great responsibility. So endeth todays sermon.

I use a good (good is the key word, the $98 one from Walmart ain't gonna help) radar detector and more importantly some common sense. I get my kicks out of pulling onto the highway and hammering on it up to say 120 or a quick blast when nobody is around. You just have to be aware and pick your spots and you can have fun.

I'm with you on that one...the thrill for me is the acceleration.

I am the exception for sure on most sites (hell the world lol) and rarely if ever get into it. I could not tell you why I drive like gramps but even driving sloooooooooooow satisfies me. Weird eh!!!!

VAEM 06-04-2011 06:30 PM

Take her to the track. Then open her up!

No offense taken :) I'm the girl that's usually hanging out with the guys in the garage.
Maybe I should change my profile name. Any suggestions?

I for one dont like the use of this word "Limit" . It should be more of a "Recommendtion"

klaw 06-10-2011 11:46 PM

You people in Ontario have it rough. I was through there recently and the limits are ridiculously low. Try driving from Kalamazoo Michigan to Port Huron then across the bridge into Ontario - it feels like you're suddenly driving in glue. If speed kills so much, then why doesn't it kill the same in Michigan or Germany? 90km/hr with modern vehicles on a 4 lane divided highway is silly slow (sorry). Call me a cynic, but I think that the only thing realistic speed limits kills is traffic ticket revenue. If governments were so concerned about saving lives, they'd actually put some effort into driver training and testing - but that would cost money not generate it.

Hey Red Poni (new name suggestion):), find urself a 1/8th mile track, that should satisfy ur acceleration needs without the high speed of the 1/4 mile track. For me most of the excitement is the launch & 2nd gear. :chacha:

Red Pony 06-11-2011 12:30 PM

There's an old military airport out here that might do the trick. If any of you are familiar with the movie Dieppe, some of the scenes were filmed there. In previous summers they've had a motorcycle fundraiser and demo there.

Remember the old days in Montana, literally 160 kmph and no problems:tup
