help please
ok , heres the story. i was under the pony and takin the cat exhaust out. everything was going tickety boo untill i got to the pass side. i got the 1 bolt out when i realized that somebody before me must have had a broken stud at 1 time or another. i heated up the flange with my propane torch to get her hot to remove the bolt that was in place of the stud. i gave it a couple of turns and i was happy until " ping". i know that sound well as when i was a punk i worked at a midas. sh.., f..kn, c..ks..ker. now what , i have no welder, i have a tap and die set but no bolt extractor. it snaped off with 2 threads showin. now my question, these bolt extractors, i know how they work but how far do i drill into the bolt to get the extractor in? also ive heard that if you dont go far enough and snap the extractor your f..ked? any help apreciated

i have tried a few of those extractors, and even if you do get a good hole drilled, they still break pretty easily.
i have broke just about every one of them that i have tried.
what about just drilling it out and tapping a new hole?
is that possible?

i thought about the headers but it looks like a total pain in the *** to try to get some headers in there. i would probably go shorties as i hear that long tubes you will lose bottom end but gain top end.

thats what i was thinkin. ill just drill out the bolt , retap and new stud it.

oh make sure that you drill a centered as possible or that could cause problems

There is a stud remover that can likely get that out, go to Canadian tire and see if you can rent/borrow one, it's a stud remover just for this purpose, it's not an extractor or "easy-out", it's a socket type of tool with a hole and a slide with teeth to bind on the stud and walk it out, the tool I use is made by Snap-On, they may have an off brand one there though, it works well, just make sure you heat up the manifold around the stud, but don't heat the stud itself.
