East Plastic Tab Sticking off 2012 Rocker Molding

Here's a question for the well informed. There is a flat piece of plastic that extends inward on the Rear of each Rocker Molding for about 6 or 7 inches ahead of the rear wheels on my 2012 V6 Performance Package. Does anyone know what the purpose of this piece is?

I asked the dealership and they have no idea. Ford told me to ask the dealership so go figure. I would really like to know, especially since winter is here and I would like to know how important it is if it gets broken off from snow or ice and I have to replace it. Thanks.

Post a pic up and someone should be able to answer your question. Sounds like maybe a wind or debris deflector.

That's what I'm thinking, but I'd like to know for sure. I'll post a picture tomorrow as it's dark here now and miserable out. I noticed you have a 2013, do you have the same tabs?

I'm not sure, I'll check when I get home from work. The 2013 has painted rockers so it may be different.

How about a mounting place for splash guards?

No, It's ahead of the rear wheels. I already have splash guards.

I know some of the Ford SUVs have a similar type of thing to help the aero for fuel economy ... so that might be its purpose on the Mustang as well.

cheers
