My first guess would be a "drip edge" a place that water collects to be shed in one spot as it flows along the rocker in the slip stream.

I also asked the same question in another forum and someone from Ford Customer service answered the question. I hope this clarifies it for everyone.

"Hello totaljustice,

What you’re referring to, is a stone guard/cuff. It’s used to help prevent damage from road debris being kicked up by the tires. I hope this helps.

Would make sence, but why wouldn't cover a little more of the area of the body that is wrapped around into the wheel openning?

That is what it is for...I hope it works. My 2000 Pontiac Grandam GT has the rocker mouldings and the bottom of it by the wheel well has no paint left on it from rocks and sand being kicked up from the tires and bouncing off the rocker panels. Obviously Ford is smarter!

Anyone know how these are attached. I have one that was knocked out of place. Not sure how it happened but I want to put it back to its proper alignment

My guess would be a couple push pins
