RCMP SSP Mustangs
4 Attachment(s)
Here is a article in a RCMP in house Magaize " RCMP Gazette" from 1987 talking about the first trial testing of 8 Mustangs. 6 ended up in BC ( 3- 5 speeds and 3- automatics) I ended up getting 2 of the 5 speeds. The ones I got are Unit # 10C7 from Deas Island Freeway Patrol ( pictured in the article) and the other car is Unit 11C10 from Hope Highway Patrol. I tried to upload some photos of the acutal cars, but the load failed. I will try to repost them shortly. Just thought I would see if these would up load.

Let's try these photos ..? The car is a 1986 SSP Mustang one of 6 the RCMP had in BC for trial testing from 1986-1988, The car was sold in 1988-89at Federal Govt Auction. The buyer kept the car in his paved driveway for 16yrs and never drove it as he bought a second one and drove it. The car shows 42,xxx miles on the speedo, not sure if that is 142,xxx miles, it is 5.0 with manual 5 speed, power locks, tilt wheel. The car was used in Hope, BC. It was a marked car with Ford dark blue paint/ white doors from the factory. The car never had a lightbar and was a " clean roof" or "slick top" car.
The car starts and runs fine. Looks like it needs some rust repair on the floor pans ( more photos later) but not too bad. Exhaust is original. Brake lines look rsuty and both doors and trunk lid lips have rust. The remainder of the car is solid. Tranny shifts great, rear end is tight, steering , front end tight and brakes stop good. It will need a complete front to rear going through, engine area reconditioned, paint, tires and wheels powder coated. Any observation or suggestions welcome. Interior pictures to follow. |

Very cool - I think it was pretty funny to see the picture of the interior in the original article with only a CB radio installed in the car. Nowhere near all the electronic crap you see in cruisers these days. Not that I spend any time in police cruisers - in the front seat anyway.:lol Cool pictures and a nice resto project - little piece of history to boot.

It is interesting the odometer only has 5 digits and is mph as the default.
Those cars are a neat piece of history. I have seen a couple of them over the years. I have seen 2 in the London, On area that were imported from the states and the rest at shows in the states. |
Love those black steel wheels on the pre-87 SSP cars. I had a set of them on my 85 Marquis LTS 5.0L, it looked like an unmarked car with those on it.
