In Search of the owner of 2 yellow 1972 351 HO Mustangs: Do you know him?

Hello everyone,

My name is Doug, and I am a new member (not from Canada) on a very interesting and very specific mission; I'm hoping you'll enjoy my brief story below and perhaps help me in locating what may well be one of your own forum members.

Many of you know that Ford publicly ended its muscle car foray back in 1971 with the 351 Boss Mustang. Only about 1800 were produced, and they are among the hottest muscle cars in the collector market today. But fewer realize that Ford did make a small number (398 to be exact) of R-code Mustangs in 1972, calling them the "351 H.O." for "high output." These cars were essentially Boss 351 Mustangs, with only slightly less aggressive cam and pistons in order to slightly lower compression in order to run on the unleaded gas being introduced at that time. Not only did they have the same solid lifter engine as the '71 Boss, they also came with mandatory 4 speeds, Hurst Shifters, 3.91 traction lok axles, front disc brakes, staggered shocks, and heavy duty suspension.

But unlike the '71 Boss, which only came in the fastback model, the 398 "351 HO" cars came in all body configurations, with 366 fastbacks produced, 18 convertibles, and just 14 hard tops.

I own one of those 14 hard tops. More on that in a moment.

In my research about these "HO" cars, I came across an article written by a man named Dan Haynes for a now defunct website called boss351.org. Dan owns a '72 HO car himself, and knows a ton about them, which he detailed in the article. Dan also mentioned running across an article about a Canadian owner of twin matching '72 Mustang 351 HO cars--one Sportsroof and one Convertible. Both of them were matching medium bright yellow cars. He never mentioned the Canadian's name or which magazine he saw the article in.

It just so happens my 1 of 14 hard top cars is also medium bright yellow, and is completely restored to like new condition. It is unknown how many (if any) of the other 13 hard top 351 HO cars have survived.

As you can probably guess by now, my goal is to find this mystery Canadian owner of these twin yellow HO cars, and see if he might be interested in adding a yellow hard top to complete his collection. If he did, it would be one of the rarest and most unique Ford collections in the world, not to mention one of the best Ford tri-fectas to own in terms of future investment value, as these cars truly represent the very last of the Muscle Mustangs, and the end of the muscle car era in general.

I'd appreciate Anyone who has information about this owner contact me, whether or not he's still around or still owns these cars, so that I can either get in touch with him or give up this search. I don't have to sell this car, but I do think it would be an amazing thing to have all three body types in the same factory color represented in one collection.

I can be contacted via email at kcturbodug@yahoo.com
, or by phone at 816-734-2396.

Thank you for any help you can provide, and best regards.

Doug Hauser

I moved you're thread here, because you'll probably get a better response here. Also, have you thought of writing into the well known (Classic) Mustang publications? As well as joining the GTAMC, Yellow Mustang Registry, GHMA?

I'm assuming no one has heard of this guy or knows of him? Anyone seen this guy at a car show with his cars? Any help in locating him would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I do not. The guy that wrote about it saw the story in a magazine back in the 90s, so who knows what it might have been in.

Yessir, this is truly a long shot I'm after....heh
