Shifters

Hey guys.thinking about a hurst short throw shifter or steeda tr-ax for a 2010 mustang gt. Does anyone have a opinion on either one?

1low03gt 12-11-2011 06:45 PM

I know you didn't list it, but MGW shifters seem to be the shifter of choice these days, even for those with an aftermarket shifter already seem to be making the swap over to MGW.

I myself have the B&M Ripper shifter, and love it. Still feels tight like it did back in '03 when i installed it.

SNAKEBITE 12-11-2011 09:19 PM

Used Steeda and loved it

ChadStang 12-11-2011 09:20 PM

I think for a 2010 MGW is your best choice. I agree on the B&M for the pre 05's though. I've had several and was always happy with them.

grabberblue1 12-11-2011 09:40 PM

Thanks for the imput,i will check it out

SNAKEBITE 12-12-2011 02:05 AM

like anything else it is kind of a personal preference thing

roddy 12-12-2011 05:56 AM

+1 for the MGW. I have a Hurst shitfer on my '07, and I've never been happy with it. It looks great, but it feels cheap and it buzzes/vibrates at certain rpms under full throttle. If I could do it again, I wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra money on the MGW.

SNAKEBITE 12-12-2011 04:21 PM

I have a older buddy that's not a fan of the Hurst either.

grabberblue1 12-12-2011 06:05 PM

I was leaning towards steedas shifter.dont know much about mgw

tbar 12-12-2011 06:16 PM

#1 MGW, more adjustability, best shifter out there IMO.

This!!!
One reason most are switching, then they realize how smooth they are once they install it.

grabberblue1 12-12-2011 06:35 PM

im going to check out mgw

roddy 12-12-2011 06:59 PM

Click the link below if you haven't checked 'em out yet.

I found the new shifter in the 05 was great if in a hurry to grab 3rd gear, the rest on the stocker were fine

grabberblue1 12-13-2011 08:34 PM

I checked out MGW's website, price seems reasonable, they have alot to offer. You have to call to get shipping prices so i will be calling them tomorrow

SNAKEBITE 12-14-2011 04:15 PM

keep us informed

grabberblue1 12-14-2011 06:04 PM

I called MGW today, they told me it would cost between 40-60 dollars for shipping and handling. They cant give a exact price until they ship it out, that seems weird to me,

1low03gt 12-14-2011 06:50 PM

Have you checked to see if any sponsors, and such carry the MGW shifter?
Places like Steeda, or DaSilva Racing,ects... Places like these can usually get them, or they carry them in stock. Just a thought.

grabberblue1 12-14-2011 08:05 PM

I checked Steeda and American Muscle, no luck, i will try DaSilva and other websites

The only place to buy MGW is direct from them, they don't have any other suppliers.

SNAKEBITE 12-15-2011 05:11 PM

that is super weird re your order

You serious!!:?

grabberblue1 12-15-2011 07:10 PM

Im serious, unless the person i was talking to didnt know what they were talkin about. You would think that they could give me the total before i ordered it. Im going to give them another call. How come no one else sells it?

Yep, atleast last time I checked with them a couple of years ago that was the deal.

Yeah I think I'd try again. Seems like bs to me.

tbar 12-16-2011 05:34 PM

You can get MGW here.

stangmods.com

SNAKEBITE 12-16-2011 05:37 PM

yeah definitely call back

roddy 12-16-2011 07:23 PM

I bought my MGW "gripper" shift knob at DaSilva's in Pickering. If they have the knobs, I would think they could order a shifter. Matt is pretty good for price matching too.

ChadStang 12-17-2011 12:03 AM

Well I stand corrected. It was a couple of years ago when I checked into it last.

grabberblue1 12-17-2011 04:21 PM

I checked out Stangmods website, they are $20.00 more but offer free shipping. I havent called DaSilva yet, will try Monday. Has anyone heard of the MGW in the 2010.

I don't know anyone personally that has one but I have never read a bad review.

SNAKEBITE 12-18-2011 08:11 AM

That price seems reasonable

grabberblue1 12-18-2011 08:57 AM

I think so too, but when i was talking to mgw they told me i had to buy a jam nut for the shifter and on Stangmods website they dont mention anything about. I figured it would come with it.

SNAKEBITE 12-18-2011 04:40 PM

me to weird

1low03gt 12-18-2011 04:57 PM

Any shifter i got did not come with a jamb nut, but for any shifter ball, t handle i got, they came with a jamb nut.

grabberblue1 12-18-2011 07:50 PM

I guess i will have to dig abit deeper on this, like i said before i am new to the Mustang world

tbar 12-18-2011 07:57 PM

I had to buy the jam nut from MGW with my shifter, it was only $10.

SNAKEBITE 12-19-2011 04:38 PM

I don't remember doing this with Steeda?????????

1low03gt 12-19-2011 06:32 PM

Most of the time, you can get away with using the stock shifter knob without the jamb nut, and with the aftermarket shifters not coming with a jamb nut, it's easy not to remember ever not using one.
But if the shifter knob doesn't position right when it is tight, then a jamb nut is required.

grabberblue1 12-19-2011 08:53 PM

Im still undecided between Steeda and MGW.I was talking to a guy on the weekend,he has a 2009 Mustang GT with a Steeda shifter and never had a problem.
