Shifters
Hey guys.thinking about a hurst short throw shifter or steeda tr-ax for a 2010 mustang gt. Does anyone have a opinion on either one?
I know you didn't list it, but MGW shifters seem to be the shifter of choice these days, even for those with an aftermarket shifter already seem to be making the swap over to MGW.
http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_2010-Present.shtml I myself have the B&M Ripper shifter, and love it. Still feels tight like it did back in '03 when i installed it. |
Used Steeda and loved it
I think for a 2010 MGW is your best choice. I agree on the B&M for the pre 05's though. I've had several and was always happy with them.
Thanks for the imput,i will check it out
like anything else it is kind of a personal preference thing
+1 for the MGW. I have a Hurst shitfer on my '07, and I've never been happy with it. It looks great, but it feels cheap and it buzzes/vibrates at certain rpms under full throttle. If I could do it again, I wouldn't hesitate to spend the extra money on the MGW.
I have a older buddy that's not a fan of the Hurst either.
I was leaning towards steedas shifter.dont know much about mgw
#1 MGW, more adjustability, best shifter out there IMO.

One reason most are switching, then they realize how smooth they are once they install it. |

I found the new shifter in the 05 was great if in a hurry to grab 3rd gear, the rest on the stocker were fine
I checked out MGW's website, price seems reasonable, they have alot to offer. You have to call to get shipping prices so i will be calling them tomorrow
keep us informed
I called MGW today, they told me it would cost between 40-60 dollars for shipping and handling. They cant give a exact price until they ship it out, that seems weird to me,
Have you checked to see if any sponsors, and such carry the MGW shifter?
Places like Steeda, or DaSilva Racing,ects... Places like these can usually get them, or they carry them in stock. Just a thought. |
I checked Steeda and American Muscle, no luck, i will try DaSilva and other websites

The only place to buy MGW is direct from them, they don't have any other suppliers.

Im serious, unless the person i was talking to didnt know what they were talkin about. You would think that they could give me the total before i ordered it. Im going to give them another call. How come no one else sells it?

yeah definitely call back
I bought my MGW "gripper" shift knob at DaSilva's in Pickering. If they have the knobs, I would think they could order a shifter. Matt is pretty good for price matching too.
Well I stand corrected. It was a couple of years ago when I checked into it last.
I checked out Stangmods website, they are $20.00 more but offer free shipping. I havent called DaSilva yet, will try Monday. Has anyone heard of the MGW in the 2010.

That price seems reasonable
I think so too, but when i was talking to mgw they told me i had to buy a jam nut for the shifter and on Stangmods website they dont mention anything about. I figured it would come with it.
me to weird
Any shifter i got did not come with a jamb nut, but for any shifter ball, t handle i got, they came with a jamb nut.
I guess i will have to dig abit deeper on this, like i said before i am new to the Mustang world
I had to buy the jam nut from MGW with my shifter, it was only $10.
I don't remember doing this with Steeda?????????
Most of the time, you can get away with using the stock shifter knob without the jamb nut, and with the aftermarket shifters not coming with a jamb nut, it's easy not to remember ever not using one.
But if the shifter knob doesn't position right when it is tight, then a jamb nut is required. |
Im still undecided between Steeda and MGW.I was talking to a guy on the weekend,he has a 2009 Mustang GT with a Steeda shifter and never had a problem.
