Hey 1LOW03GT - do you need hood pins to close your Steeda hood or can you still use the factory latch system?

1low03gt 11-14-2009 05:11 PM

No prob's on making your life difficult LOL!!Just wanted to give you a wide range to choose from.
No pins needed with the Steeda hood, well for the '99 to '04 version anyways. So i would imagine the same for the SN95 version. There is a thick plate riveted between the inner, and outer skin of the hood. They only recommend hood pins for there own "secure" reasons so you don't back on to them if something failed with your hood that wasn't there fault, ects.
And again, the hood is nothing bu perfect. No trimming,or major body work. The paint guy that did painted the hood for me stated it was a sweet hood to work with, all he did was scuffed it,the sprayed the paint, nothing else needed to be done.As for the fitment,a body, and i installed it with minor adjustments only to the hinges where it attaches to the body so there would be a perfect gap all around the hood.
I know with the Harwood hoods, you still need to trim, shave, fill, and sand.I've seen a few on some on the foxes, and SN95's,and they still need work to look good to look "factory finish" with clean gaps, and flat surfaces, plus watched an episode of a hot rod show where they got a Harwood hood for a fox body project, and it took a lot of work to make it look good. There quality is good, but they leave extra work to be had,and that is where the money spending comes in out of your pocket.
With Steeda, and Cervini hoods, very little prep needs to be done, and there is no trimming, shaving, and filling, just scuff, and paint, then install. The only thing with the Steeda hood,is that you save a bit of cash compared to Cervini, which you can throw into the paint money instead. LOL!

Cervini is key. Avoid those garbage hoods from brampton.

Myself I would go with the cervini 3" cobra R hood they suit our cars the best.

Ok ... ok .... I did it. I ordered my new hood. No looking back now. It's already done. I just ordered it quick, like I was ripping a bandaid off. LOL :) I do want to thank everybody for their great ideas - you guys really were a TON of help - even you 1LOW03GT! ;) (kidding). I really appreciate the feedback I got.

Wanna know what I got? The person who guesses first and right wins a $100.00 Canadian Tire gift card courtesy of SNAKEBITE (again, kidding) :) - This is fun.

I ended up going with the Harwood (I'm trusting you Jakeshadow!) Formula Hood (I've attached another couple pictures of it). Hopefully it looks good - I see some pictures where it looks great and others where it looks ... well ... ugh. I was really torn between this one and the Steeda hood 1LOW03GT is running - in the end a match of rock / paper / sissors sealed the deal - kidding - I choose it mostly cause it really looks like the Saleen hood I already have but still has the cowl I want - Can you tell I don't REALLY like change? Hope I made the right choice!

I will post something up after it arrives and goes to the shop to tell you what was involved in prepping it, shapping it, etc., etc., and roughly how much it costed - in the event anyone else in curious about HARWOOD.

Thanks again everybody. Very much appreciated!
