sparkplug debate

I want to replace the sparkplugs on my 2006 GT and reading on the internet there are a number of opinions on what plugs to replace the originals. My GT has 62,000 kms on it. Should I replace them with Ford Motorcraft platinum plugs or something else? Is there a plug out there that is one piece instead of two like the Ford one?

I believe Champion and Brisk make a one piece plug. The Brisks are racing plugs and have a much shorter life than the Champions.
If this is your first plug change on a modular engine...do some research on removal of plugs. They are VERY prone to breaking at the porcelin leaving the base in the head. Then you either need a special removal socket or a tow job to shop to have them removed. It can get costly.
I have used Champions in my last stang but haven't changed my current ones. I will be going to the Champions when I do.
I had good success in my last stang by soaking them with a penetrant spray for 15 to 20 minutes before trying to break them loose. Then giving then another little spray and very slowly backing them out.
Use a permatex anti-sieze on the flat seating area (not the threads) of the new ones, it will help next time your have to replace them.
In general most people experience breaking problems with the two piece plugs and then it gets costly, especially if you have to pull the heads. If you are uncomfortable doing then yourself...let a good garge/dealship do them...they have the tools.

If Champion makes a one piece,i think i would go with those. Those two piece stocker plugs in the 3V's would leave me stressed with all those horror stories out there.LOL!

Steer clear of the 2 piece plugs. I have just found out the hard way

I just changed the OEM plugs in my 07 GT with 60,000 kms. Followed the TSB and thank God none broke. Actually they all came out quite easily. I put the Champion 7989 in and took it out for a rip and all was good - started and idled well with no codes or misfires that I could tell. So far I'm happy with the Champions.
Prior to getting up my nerve to change them myself, I went to Northstar Ford in Calgary to see what they would charge - $400+ if none broke and up to $1200 if they all broke. At $140 per hour and following the recommended hourly screwing for that job they didn't get my business. No wonder they are called a Stealership!

I had the dealer in Essex change my plugs. One broke but they were able to get it out after letting it soak overnight. They didnt charge as much as you were quoted. I also put in the champion plugs. I had no issues after and it should be good for a while.

Good to hear you have a good dealer. I have a whine from the right rear and they want 5 hours @ $140/hr just to diagnose it. I think (no I know!) I'll find somewhere else to take my car.
