synthetic oil

just wondering peoples opinions....

going in for an oil change on Friday and i was considering switching to Synthetic Oil...

i have an 06 v6 mustang... it has 17000km on it...

is this a good idea or no gain/improvement for me?
what benefits would i gain from switching to synthetic or would there be none and its not worth the switch?

whats the life span of synthetic oils compared to regular motor oil?

also this is my DD car.. so i will use it in the winter as well...

would the synthetic oil perform just as well in the winter?

any and all help and opinions/ideas etc... would be appreciated

thanks

Try Castrol super syn. Better oil, but cheaper than full synthetic.

Walmart also has a house brand synthetic oil that does well for daily drivers and is cost effective.

Usually in the winter you want a thinner oil, a bit thicker in the sumer.

I use Quaker State High RPM 5w-30w it is a synthetic blend, it performs well year round. Has for the life span I change my oil usually every at every 3500km so I can't say I have run the oil for an extended period of time. A clean engine is a happy engine.

I know that your not supposed to switch to synthetic unless from new/rebuilt but since your only going on your 4th oil change well then if your gonna do it it better be soon.
But then it is only a V6 is it really worth the $50-$60 dollar oil change??? That would be your own call.
If it were a V8 I would say go for it....
Your car its up to you, good luck on your decision.

As indicated in my previous post you should use the synthetic blend, preferably Quaker State High RPM 5w-30w. If you want more information you should go on the Quaker State site. The Quaker State RPM oil was recommened in several mustang magazines in 2005 when I got my S197. I have used it ever since. To suggest that you should not use it because you only have a "V6" is utter nonsense. The better the product the longer your engine will last.

Either or. To be honest, in all my engines i run reg. oil and just do my changes every 3000km.

I havent bought in to the synthetic craze yet.

Agreed, generally synthetics are for engines running a little bit quicker (high RPM) and hotter so the oil doesn't break down. For daily drivers and stock engines regular oil is fine as long as you change it on a regular basis.

No one seems to take note of the fact that in Canada Ford recommends an oil change every 5000 Km. however in the United States even those with a similar climate to ours every 5000 miles. Hmmm who is getting screwed over.

With the Mobil1 full synthetic oil I use in my Cobra, I will still maintain the 3000km oil change interval.....(I've got 3000km now, when I purchased it with 725km 6 months ago, I've done 2 oil changes already...overkill??)

^^^^^^^^That is no where near over kill for me. Next spring I will change the Mobil 1 and I put 480 kms on the car this year (April-Aug). I will say you finish a close second in the overkill department though
