Tire Size/Brand for 400+rwhp
 

I'm going to be in the market for new tires very soon since I'll be roasting the hell out of mine every time I hit the gas. I'm expecting the car to be close to or above 400RWHP. Will 275/40/17s do or will I need 315/30/17s? If I go with the 315s, I'm concerned about them fitting. I'm not currently using tail pipes but I would like to get them back on at some point once I finish my full exhaust. Also, if I went 315 I would be getting deep dish 10.5" deep 17" rears.

What brand as well?

They're supposed to start back up this week at Rona. The meets have been split thanks to Chuck and the other guy with the rival Windsor Weekend. Most people go to Boppers in LaSalle. They tried having meets at Gilligans across from the Market but that didn't work out.

I haven't been out to any as my car has been in the garage for a while. Waiting on parts...

and even then you will roast them...probally need a nitto, or a DR :2:

Is there any clearance issues with 315s? I've heard that you can't use tailpipes with that size...

My Nitto 555R 245/45/17s won't do at all since I was roasting them at the track launching at 1500 RPM and 260rwhp. I can't imagine 400+. These ones would be for daily driving, I think I'll be getting some MTs for the track.

yes i do think there is clearence issues..
you need to roll the fender well, and get spacers i think.

Ya you might have a bit of a clearance issue,i'm running nitto 555r 275 40 17's and there is about half of an inch clearance from my tailpipe,also my car is lowered an inch and a half and there is actual cuts in my tire from it hitting the edge of the wheel well,you might have to space them out an inch or so..

At that power level, going wider on street tires will make hardly any difference. If you want it to hook up on the launch, a DOT drag tire is the only way to go.

Drag radials are not out of the question for street use. Track I will be going with slicks after I beef up the rear end. Will 275 DRs be able to tame the beast or will I need to go to 315? 245 sure as hell won't.

A buddy of mine is running 315s on his '99, no rubbing issues, aftermarket wheels though. If you do go to a wider wheel, I've got a set of polished American Racing wheels I'll be selling very soon 17x11 rear 17x8 front, they have 285/40 and 245/45s on them now with about 20% tread, looking for $1,000. Which ever tire you run, you'll still be able to roast 'em pretty good without even trying.....DR's only really hook after a burnout.
