Tires not wheels

So Im not starting a wheel size debat :) but what I want to know the best tire sze.

I am going to buy Michelin Pillot super sports tires just want to get the best tire size. Bellow is what I am thinking ( I have already ordered the wheels)

front 255/35ZR20
Back 285/35ZR20

What do you think ?? 2011 GT 5.0L

Thanks SDF

I always like a tire width/wheel combo that completely fills out the wheel well without sticking out beyond the body panel.

Not too sure what can fit behind the s1897 chassis, but on my new edge i have 265's up front, and 285's out back, and the 285's are not bad, but seem to be a little narrow for my 18X10 rim. So depending on the rims it might be alright. What rim size do you have out back ?

Best for what? Best appearance, or best handling? If you're after best handling, you shouldn't go with such a large difference in the sizes front to rear.

As mentioned earlier the wheel width plays a big part in things

Apperance of course. but there isnt that much difference in sizes

front 255/35ZR20 = 10.04 wide and 27.03 tall
back 285/35ZR20 = 11.22 wide and 27.85 tall

Well then those are good choices. Diameter and width are a nice fit for the wheel openings, and they are readily available sizes.

cheers

how about 255/40/20 front and 285/35/20 out back

superdutyfan 05-12-2012 10:19 AM

Just out of curiosity what is the best handleing tire size (in 20's) ??
I was also thinking of going with wider front tire 265/35zr20(10.43 wide 27.30 tall)
back 285/35zr20 (11.22 wide 27.85 tall)
stock all around is 245/45 19 = 9.65 wide 27.68 tall
this is the toughest dession so far

Lt_Crazy 05-12-2012 02:27 PM

Honestly go with the widest possible in the rear!!! Front 255 or 265/35/20 should me good!!!

superdutyfan 05-12-2012 03:27 PM

the wheels are 20x9 ft and 20x10 bk
for the 285/35zr20 and 255/35zr20 on tire rack delivered to my door all in at 1800.01
for the 285/35zr20 and 265/35zr20 on tire rack delivered to my door all in at 2132.86
would there be a noticeable difference between them for the extra 332 bucks ??

SNAKEBITE 05-14-2012 04:27 PM

no way and I would never spend the difference for approx 10 mm^^^^ Oh use the 332 for something else on the car.

just ordered the tires 1797.76 from tire rack delivered to my door. The best price I found in red deer was 2200 plus install. Second time I have used tire rack and it is well worth it. :)

SNAKEBITE 05-16-2012 01:51 AM

geez I thought it would be a lot more than 400.00 in Red Deer over Tire Rack.
