What Model To Buy

Hey guys, new to the site and would greatly appreciate your input.Looking at two mustangs:one is a 1989 GT and the other is a 2001 GT.Both hardtops.Having a real hard time deciding on which one to purchase.Used to own a 1990 coupe 20yrs ago so my heart strings are tugging towards the 89 but I kind'a like the 01.So you can see my dilema.Like I said your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,Sal
ps I will fill out my profile once I decide on a car

Given the same condition and mileage, I'd go with the '89. I like the fox body Mustangs. My first choice would be a coupe like the one you used to have.

I'd take the 01 GT for the opposite reason you guys would take the 89. I'm not much of a fox fan unless they're done right.

Not sure what kind of price differance your dealing with, but for re-sale value I would definately go with 01. Having said that, if this purchase is going to be something you plan on holding onto for a long time, sounds to me you have a special tie to the Fox. Either way you cant lose, because they are both awesome generations!

Since i have already an '04 GT i would say go with the Fox... it all comes down to the work you want to put into it... i would assume that the Fox will take more work, as the '01 will be a bit easier to maintain....

Good luck and glad to see there will be another happy mustang owner soon,

G

They both have their benefits!
The foxbody is cheap to modify, easy to work on,a great car for pefromance, light, and used/new parts are plenty full. All in all,a true tested toy.
The new edge on the other hand, stronger chassis, more comfirt features like the extra padded seats, and air,ects,...it's a great car for performance aswell, and can create some great power when planned right, and at the same time, does not lose it's drivability at all,4.6L love blowers right out of the box,and if you are into corner carving, with very little extra's in mods, you can go out and have a blast.
Stock for stock,i would go the '01,if you want to drag quite a bit,the fox is cheaper way to go,if you want to auto X,the '01 is a better chassis to start with.
It will come down to what you really want.
I've done both, the 5.0L for 6 years, and now my '03 for 6 years, and i wouldn't go back.As much as i miss working on a 5.0L engine, the sn95/new edge is so much more refined in strength, and durability in the chassis right out of the box.
Either way,you can't go wrong.

Ive got the in between...SN95 more closer to a Edge.
Our cars have much more to offer....really if I wanted to drag my car all the time I would have gotten a Fox, but for drive ability a SN95/Edge would be my choice.
The Mach 460 sound system is real +, the interior is better all around, 4 wheel disc, 5 bolt rims, etc....
You buy a fox you have to do all these mods just to get what we got out of the box.

If I could start all over again I would save for a 04 SVT Cobra, but thats me.

Good luck on your choice, and hope your choice is your best choice!
