When to get first oil change?

The owners manual for my 2012 V6 says every 10,000K,there is no way I will go that far at any point of the cars life, right now it has just passed 2000K,need opinions when to get the first oil change.

If you are a low mileage driver Ford's scheduled maintenance is required every 6 months

I'd talk to your service dept. about the first oil change, some manufacturers send the engines out with a "break in" oil, which should stay in for the specified time/miles, not sure what Ford does. If it's not a "break in" oil, I'd be dumping it pretty soon.

I had the factory oil changed after 3000km and have changed the oil and filter every 3000-4000km ever since. I also switched from the factory oil to Quaker State High RPM semi-synthetic and have since switched to Castrol semi-synthetic. **The key with the warranty on a new car is to use a FORD oil filter to avoid Ford warranty issues. Some would say my oil change routine is a bit much but I believe in preventative maintenance.

I think you can pretty much change it anytime you want. The owners manual is the least you have to do to keep the warranty in good standing, after that it's all cake. I also think with the way things are built these days, "break in" oil is a thing of the past - if you needed to do it, I'm sure the manual would say so?

Fact or fiction I don't know but I always believe the first oil change is the most important.

I would change it at 3k and then every 6 months.

There is lots of controversy around oils and oil changes so pick what you feel comfortable with

I'm thinking that 3000K will be when I do this,my first 4 are included at the dealership, will also be a good time to get a few minor flaws in the car fixed at the same time.

I am way different (shock I know) but I dump the oil for the first time after just a few hundred k's. The reason for this is that generally the car has been sitting for a few to several months from the date of manufacturing to the time you drive away in it. After the first change I will have it changed once a year which for me is approximately 1000-1300 k's, mind you this year it will see approx 500 k's. The way I look at it even with 7 q's of synthetic oil and the filter done at the dealership I pay roughly 9.00 per month. Talk about cheap insurance/peace of mind.

I figured I'd get some pretty varied responses, there's a chance I'll be taking it on an 1800km northern On. trip,if I do I'll definitely be changing it before going.
