I ordered ours new in July 2008. The manual says every 6 months OR 12,000 k's. Theres no way I put that many k's on it because its tucked away each winter. Fair weather driving only also. Right now theres likely just over 15,000 k's on it. I change it just before putting away, and then again each time I bring it out (about 6 months). Yes, it seems like a waste, but if thats what it takes to keep the warranty up. so be it. Yes, it hurts, but if theres a problem, Ford would most certainly be looking at the oil changes you've done. JMO

I change my oil filter ever 5,000kms, and oil every 10,000 (amsoil)

now, if it was a new car. I'd dump the oil before 1000kms, and then every 5000, and then once I have around 10,000+ i'd switch to synthetic and change it every 10,000 and just change the filter and top up every 5,000

Obviously the way you drive is dependant on your need to change as well.


Now on my turbo mx6, the filter was changed every 1500, and the oil every 3000 running synthetic.
but that thing runs really hot, and i'm not easy on it either.

Just remember oil, and filters are alot cheaper then an engine rebuild

Well,I talked to a couple of dealers,none of them carry non synthetic 5W20,want to change the oil now at 2000k,would Ford have any way of knowing what kind of oil I use?I would of course use a Motorcraft filter.

It doesn't matter what brand of oil you use and wether it's synthetic or not. As long as it is the right viscosity it will be fine. The only way they will know what oil you use is if you ever have an engine problem, they will want proof of maintenance. I'm sure the receipts will show what the oil is.

To add to the confusion,I just talked to another dealer and they said that the Motorcraft semi-synthetic is what's used in their shop.This was after I've been told not to use synthetic till a couple of changes down the road

Ok here's my advice, and I have done a ton of research on types of oil and when to change it, so take it for what's it worth:

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, and Mobil 1 oil filter. I change my oil every 5,000 kms, even though they say it can go 10,000. As for a new engine, I would personally go 2500 kms, and would obtain a sample of the drained oil, and send it away for testing. Might sound rediculous, but if you're making the investment of a new car, it doesn't hurt to spend a little money to find exactly what's going in the heart of the vehicle.:tup

Did you go to the synthetic right away when the car was new? Mine has 2000K on it right now

Unfortunately, I didnt buy "The Mistress" new:frown:
But as much as I am a fan of the Mobil 1, if I had bought her new, I would have immediately swapped the factory oil out for Royal Purple synthetic break in oil, and changed it after 2500kms to Mobil 1 full synthetic. Of course it's just my opinion.:)
