Winter tire/size question

Winter tire/size question
I have 235/55R17's on my summer rims, and i need to know what size tire would clear. For example a friend of mine is selling a full of winters at an amazing price but they are 235/75R15's. How does the conversion work for tire thickeness and rim size? Help!

try this site:

Those tires would be too big, and be careful with rim size too. I don't think anything smaller than a 16" wheel will clear your brakes.

Fullscale is correct, on an S197 V6 Mustang, you can go down to 16" wheels and still clear your brakes, but no smaller. So then you would go with the base V6 tire size, which is 215/65R16. The narrower 215 tires will cut through the winter crap better than your present 235 width tires too.

Try this link for tire calculator. It shows tire comparisons in profile and tread as well as tires made for each size.......

Just switch tires on 16".You could go with a performance snow tire like the dunlop winter sport 3d or a standard snow tire like the blizzak revo 1.
The difference being the performance tire will give you better dry/wet road handling and the standard snow will give you better snow and ice traction.

Hi. I'm just going through this mess with my 2008 Convertible. (Pony package)
Dealer ordered me the base model 16 inch rims and tires and when I tried to install them, they're too small. Rims hit the brake calipers. Contacted dealer and apparently 16's won't work if you have the pony package as it has the bigger rotors and brakes of the GT. So now I'm in the process of trying to get 17 inch steel rims from them which they say isn't easy....more $$$. Just trying to prevent others from going through what I am !
