I really do not see a problem with non muscle/sportscars etc watching from the curb and letting the cruising cars have a little room. I know that where I sat at 12 mile for 8+ hours I saw a whole lot more vehicles than I ever would have driving the route. Narrow minded and silly maybe but I like the other 33 million Canadians am entitled to an opinion.

why is it mustang guys think that only muscle cars and sports cars exsist? jesus mustang is the bottom of the barrel sports car and has not been close to a muscle car since 1970

I suppose that is asking for a ton but that's what I would ask if I was the organiser of the event. When you go to a car show there are limits as to what is let in. For instance I have not been allowed in to shows that are pre-60's with my newer Pony and I am fine with that. It's a simple rule that I can abide by and park the car and go enjoy the pre 60's vehicles.
Now then as far as your last point in your first paragraph the Pony it could be argued has never been a muscle car but instead a sportscar/ponycar. Again I state that that can be argued. To finish I have to say that as far as there not being a quick Pony since 1970 ( I assume that's what you are pointing out) I dare say there's probably not more than one car from the 60's other than a big block Cobra that could keep up with a stock Mustang Gt of today. If there's the odd chance of more I will throw out the Boss 302 of today, the GT350, GT500 GT500KR, SuperSnake etc etc that will pull circles around anything the 60's can throw at them. Oh and this should be the way it is as the 60's was 40+ years ago.

u musclae car actually has nothing to do with its 1/4 mile times etc, a muscar of its ear was garbae plain and simple but the benfit of the muscale was a stripped down car with the biggest motor it handled like a bag of and couldnt stop if a wall got in its way
the last real muscle mustang was early 70's todays cars are amazing feats of technological wonder but any self indulgent wiener can buy one, case in point mustang alley the line op of gt500's that were all identical made me laugh
again by your decription of what you would do with it would plague me to ask that only the people that can build their own are allowed then......... and since i know how few even on this board do such things when they pay to have oil changed i laugh, it would ruin the entire woodward cruise, some of the best comments we had about the car this year came from the family in the caravan with both sliders stuck in the open position and the kids drooling over the cars....woodward is not a concourse car show like the year specific or brand specific shows, god knows i attend enough of them each year ....woodward is a cruise for the enthusiast and an enthusiast can infact love cars and the make up the the grand automobile and still own a caravan or safari etc
i get exactly what your trying to say, but what your describing is NOT what woodward is

oh well we will disagree then as I am having trouble understanding your most recent post. Another way to think of it is it's a big parade ie Calgary Stampede. Not just anyone can decide to hop into there vehicle and drive in the parade as you can very well imagine. Generally there's a theme to the parade every year and to me the Woodward Dream Cruise is supposed to be about the classics muscle etc etc cruising from 8Mile to Pontiac and back.
If I was to take someone that never attended I would suggest that we grab some grass and park our chairs and watch the cars pass from sunup to sundown. I am almost certain new attendees would have a zero% interest in seeing minivans piddle past. I would be curious to see a poll of all participants be it people driving the route or the spectators and how many want to see minivans etc taking up space on Woodward.
I am also not sure about your prerequisite re: everyone must know how to disasemble a car blindfolded and put it back together and a chap/chapette cruising in a 64 Goat. After all its called the Dream Cruise and not the Put your car Together event. Cheers

The Woodward Dream Cruise evolved from the Friday and Saturday night cruises of the Metro-Detroit teenagers. On the east side, we cruised Gratiot on the weekends to check out cars that had been done up, to show off our cars (back then most guys did it themselves), to maybe catch a drag race from the light, or dare the guy next to you while waiting for the light to change. But as usual the cops didn't like it. If they caught you racing, you'd get a ticket. If they caught you cruising, they might charge you or they'd just tell you to go away. If they caught you sitting in a parking lot just watching, they'd tell you to leave or charge you with loitering. Someone had a great idea by organizing the event and making it legal for one weekend of the year. Well, except for the drag racing part. Yep, it's about the nice cars, the hot rods, and most of us Detroiters prefer the cars that offer something special or different - old or new doesn't matter.
Anyone just there to watch can park and pull up a chair. Like Snakebite said, more to see from the side of the road anyway. There are signs to indicate the right two lanes are for cruisers and the left is for those just passing through. However, not sure why anyone who's passing through would ever even want to take Woodward during this weekend event. There are at least 1/2 a dozen other routes that could be taken to avoid the street. I saw a large number of people who were obviously just passing through and driving in the right two lanes. No need for that, no matter how you look at it.
It's one weekend of the year, it's an organized event, give the cruisers that courtesy. And when its all over on Saturday night, the cops do their darndest to get every one of those cruisers off the road as fast as they can.
~Just an opinion from someone who grew up in the suburbs of that city before the Dream Cruise ever even existed.~
