Hi there, I joined the forums in hopes to get some recommendations from folks on the forums. First, a small intro...I am 42 yrs old, the last 4 cars I've had were all 5-series BMW's...I got to know them well, but my current one is a 2003 530i OEM M-package. In the middle there somewhere I did have a 300C with the Hemi...I did like that car, went like hell but I got tired of it after a short while as it began to feel like cheap flash to me.
Call it mid life crisis, but I am a bit of back yard mechanic, do my own work, like to tinker, detail and upgrade cars....the 2004+ Beemers have gotten way out of my league (technoligy wise) and I am looking for something fun and fast.
Hence, I am looking at the Mustangs...I've just poked around at some 2014 GT Demo's that looks like I can pick up in the mid to high 30's. BUT having some mechanical ability, etc...I have no issue picking one up a few years olders, 40, 50000KM...
So, I am asking others on here, lets say not going over 40K, what year, model and features of Mustang would you look for and why? Best bang for buck? Which will best hold its value?

Welcome, rule #1 is never buy a car as an investment, it's a losing proposition 99% of the time. Buy it because you love it and it makes you grin like a kid at christmas every time you turn the key. Year, model and features are going to depend on what your taste is, some guys out there like fart cans and neon. I'd rather stick a fork in my eardrum than listen to a fartcan on a regular basis, and neon is more at home in peeler bars (so I've been told lol) than on a car, but that's just me. I'm not sure how the 2014's are less technological than the Beemers so that you'd work on them, myself I lift the hood anymore and call to book my appointment.

Welcome to CMOC. Not withstanding what the guys have already stated, if I had a spare 30k kicking around I'd be looking for a 2000 Cobra R. It's incredibly fast, easy to work on and will hold its value. Win win. But that's just my opinion. You might hate it.

If you can find one for 30k let me know, I'd be all over it. Cheapest I've seen recently was well over $40,000.

Welcome to CMOC, if I could buy again I'd look for an 00 to 04 Cobra, there's even a few nice ones on here in the for sale section. If not the new 5.0's (11-14) can probably be had for a good price with the new body style coming out pretty soon, but I'm unsure as AP said on how easy they are to work on as compared to the beemers. Duel and single over head cams are over my head that's for sure, lol. Also there's some good deals I've seen on 07-09 cobra's as well.

I'm Same age welcome to pre mid life crisis .
You can do what i did buy a stock GT (mine came with CS options tho) and soak a tone more into it .
See my method to my madness is it has given me two yrs of not caring about my age and lots of fun while doing the work myself .
