New guy looking to purchase USA Shelby

Good day all. I have an opportunity to purchase a low mileage 2012 Shellby GT500 in the USA at a price that is significantly below Canadian prices (private sale, not from dealership).

A couple of questions for those that may have experience in bringing FORD USA vehicles to Alberta;

1. Any SVT ford dealers in Edmonton or Calgary that you or any forum reader has had personal experience in having daytime running lights made compliant to Canadian standards? Also price charged for this service?

2. Although it is not necessary has anyone had the speedometer guage changed from MPH to KPH. (current speedo shows both but MPH are the larger numbers as this a USA car). Any cost estimates for swapping out the speedo?

I am quite familiar with import process for GM vehicles but have never brought back a Ford hence question on DRL, speedo and associated cost.

Any replies would be most appreciated. I soon hope to join the club of Mustang owners!

Welcome aboard, and wish you luck with your current pursuit.

I've heard GM was cutting back on standard equipment. :)

Process should be the same whether it's GM/Ford/Dodge/Lada. It's the process, not the vehicle, get the DRL's, I don't think the speedo matters. Private sale on a 2012, significantly lower price than Canada, and from the US. Did the owner name his car "Sandy" ? :D

we've had a few 07-09's come through.if your is the same way the drl's just need to be programmed into the computer(maybe a relay added on some vehicles).cost shouldn't be much 1/2hr to 1 hr depending on dealership.
just make sure you get a place that has done the drls before(our first one took 2 hrs getting info /finding how to program.now its easy

Thx for replies. With regard to "sandy" , no problem as this is a Nevada vehicle. Good point however as everyone should check history of vehicles. Car fax is good for USA history.

93reefblue - thx. Good to hear of positive DRL experience. Local dealer who does RIV said anywhere from $155 for reprogramming to $1000 if computer module needs to be replaced. My reaction is WTF! Offered to provide VIN but they said it could only be determined when computer is hooked up???? Not sure whether this is BS or a strategy to discourage USA vehicle purchase (or both!).

If anyone has a specific experience re cost (for DRL work) for 2012 GT500 I would appreciate a reply.

Thx

Thx for replies. Have proceeded with purchase and now am proud owner of 2012 Shelby GT500. Now how to get it from southern USA to Edmonton in middle of winter. May store it down there and drive it up in spring. Any other Shelby owners who drive their vehicle in winter with advice? Eg: store it, put winter tires on it, pay commercial car hauler etc.

Anyone crazy enough to drive this type of car in the winter? :)

There is a guy driving a Silver 2012 GT500 around here with winter tires on it. I think he's crazy.

I bought my 06 GT Vert in May from Maryland and did some research and I didn't think the Shelby or Saleen was legal. Here is the link from RIV Canada.

FORD MERCURY / LINCOLN

You may want to check into it.

...oops i see you've already bought it I'm sure there is a way to get it passed. Beautiful car well done!

RIV table is a bit confusing but does list as "admissible" all 2007 - 13 ford Mustang Shelby GT500 vehicles. See left hand column in link you provided. I believe the in admissible references are to modifications done to factory models by Saleen or Shelby Industries.
