New and just got screwed

So my wife decided to buy her sister's '95 GT Convertible off of her... which was a great deal at $4,000 with 140,000km. Unfortunately, within a week of ownership - and before I had any time to get familiar with mustangs - the AOD tranny starts slipping and skipping gears. I take it in to my trusty mechanic here in Kitchener, who tells me it needs to be checked out - and that worst case scenario is that it will be $2100 for a complete rebuild (with 1yr 20k warranty). Well, my wife needs the car within 2 days, so I have really no choice but to tell them to go ahead. Little do I know that an aftermarket performance AOD tranny costs the same price brand new.

So, i feel I got a little screwed because of my lack of knowledge - so I'm here to learn all I can about mustangs and to hopefully learn how to give her 'stang a bit of a power boost (right now it feels pretty feeble compared to my 265hp V6 5spd Nissan Maxima)... any suggestions on lower cost power upgrades??

Cheers!

stick a set of 3:73 or 4:10 gears in the *** of the thing

best bang for the buck....and it'll wake the car right up :4:

Last thing I want after spending $2200 is to have the tranny out again... so the gears will have to wait. lol

I'm guessing the sames things I've done to my maxima will apply to the mustang - catback, intake, advanced timing?

Very true. I'm from K-W as well. Gears is best bang for the buck and relatively inexpensive to have done.

Can anyone give me a source for the gears?

Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh - and where can I get a stereo install kit for the '95?

you just need the wiring harness to tie into the factory wiring?? I always get my wiring from NATURAL SOUND on Victoria st. Join www.LAMC.ca Its a London Based Mustang club. GREAT group of guys and very informative. I have a 94BlackGT.
